The Art of Manliness recently published an article entitled The Stylish Man’s Guide to Concealed Carry and another entitled How to Use a Flashlight in a Tactical Situation. Need I say more? Born out of racism in 1751. Died from civil rights efforts, 11DEC12. No one will miss it. Ok, no, "gun control" is far from dead, unfortunately, and even if we had managed to shove a stake through its heart, there would still be cultists trying to raise it back to life, but the point is that there is not a single state in the Union left wherein it is 100% illegal for [...] I support carry. Regular readers are probably aware of that by now, but just to provide a brief recap of the situation, so long as you are carrying your firearm in a safe, responsible fashion, I genuinely do not care if you do so concealed, openly, or some strange amalgamation of the two. Do as you like, leave me to do as I like, and we will get along smashingly. Unsurprisingly, given my support [...] Want to know how to help people not care – and possibly not even notice – that you are openly carrying a firearm in public? This is how: Yes, that is indeed one of the mythical 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilts. No, I have not yet gone out in public like that (though I am sorely tempted to wear it to work tomorrow). Yes, I made that hiking stick, contrary to Our Glorious [...] [Update] Please see updated information regarding this story here. In short, Chick-Fil-A has NOT posted itself as a “gun-free zone”.[/UPDATE] Well, now, this is interesting. As regular readers will remember, I went to Chick-Fil-A on the first of this month to support them and show my disdain, to put it politely, for those governmental lackeys who would tell a private corporation where it can and cannot build based off nothing more than the personal [...] So, as everyone is aware by now, I was at Chick-Fil-A yesterday protesting the government sticking its unwelcome nose into a private corporation’s private business, and, as Lynn H. accurately guessed (I guess I am that predictable), I was openly carrying at the event as well, with my not-easy-to-overlook Baby Eagle at that. For the entire hour I stood in line, while I was surrounded by literally hundreds of people, and apart from the [...] … It is the only way to be sure*. Everyone knows where I stand on open carry so there is no sense in rehashing that particular terrain, and given that position, it should be no surprise that I was a little snarky at commenter "Andy" over at Say Uncle when he referred to the recent Open Carry Weekend (…Which I managed to miss – bad gunblogger! Bad!) as "attention whoring" and "stomping around the [...] Now, see, this is a position I can respect: I have open carried when I was not legally allowed to conceal but prefer to conceal when I can. I have found that it is just easier to go about your day and interact with people when they have no knowledge of you having a firearm. First impressions are important and cannot be erased. Many develop a poor perception of someone when they appear with [...] It is disappointing when an ostensibly pro-rights forum sinks to engaging in reasoned discourse simply because the member in question had the temerity to question a supposedly pro-rights organization’s stance on open carry in Texas. Unfortunately, this behavior does not appear to be unprecedented at the forum in question. It is even more disappointing when an ostensibly pro-rights competitive shooter and low-grade attention whore sides with two grade-A attention whores* when they decided to [...] Unlike a fellow gunny who used to write here, I went ahead and figuratively pulled the trigger today and ordered not one, but two 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilts, one in TDU Khaki and one in TDU Green. I waffled back and forth between ordering one or two – I do not even wear shorts any more – but I figured that I would leave one in its packaging, and if I did not end up [...] On my way to Organized Play to have my ass handed to me at a prerelease game for the new set of Magic: the Gathering (I did manage to "win" one round, but only because we ran out of time and the other guy threw the last of our three games… and one of the rounds I "lost" because we once again ran out of time and I threw the last game – ties help [...] To get to Mount Le Conte Lodge – the establishment we recently spent the night at – one must first traverse somewhere between 5 and 8 miles of single-track trails through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As with all National Parks, the trails and area are remarkably separated from the rest of the world, to the point where you are much farther from civilization than the "as the crow flies" distances would indicate, and, [...] Back when the bullying thugs of the “National Gun Victims Action Council” were trying to organize their failed attempt at getting people to boycott Starbucks, one of the favorite rallying cries of the anti-rights cultists was, “Why would you ever need a gun in a coffee shop!?” Well, I do not know about you, but I would consider a violent mob of 25 anarchists wielding metal pipes to be a sufficient reason to be [...] I do not drink coffee, but I appreciate companies that respect our individual rights to self-defense and self-preservation, and I further enjoy reminding anti-rights cultists how increasingly irrelevant they are making themselves; thankfully, Starbucks sells some stuff other than coffee: The barista manning our local Starbucks seemed completely unfazed by my People of the Gun ballcap, and she commented to the customer before me (an apparent regular) that the day had been busier [...] ![]() |
