one-line review: batman: the dark knight rises

The Dark Knight Rises:  While this is unquestionably the best ending to a trilogy I have ever seen, and while it was an eminently suitable ending to this particular storyline, this installation of the series was the first and only time I heartily disagreed with their specific casting… but darned if that is the only real “complaint” I have.

(Sidebar 1:  Damned if the Nolan brothers did not do a wonderful portrayal of what [...]

facts which do not fit the narrative are discarded

I love internally inconsistent people, no matter what their political or sociological leanings might or might not be; obviously, I would prefer them to be as far away from "my side" (whatever that means any more) as possible, but, regardless, without them I would not have nearly as much good material on this site as I do now.

Take, for example, Penny Bernath, writing on Twitter under the rather appropriate screenname of @penny_bernath, and [...]

occupy [insert location here] recap

I still largely intend on keeping my mostly-radio-silence regarding the complete and utter disaster that is known as "Occupy Wall Street" or "Occupy [Insert Location]" (And, really, what have they accomplished in the past few months? Is it any wonder they cannot get or keep a job?), but that does not mean that other people are not penning outstanding articles on the same.

To begin with, you need to read this whole article written [...]

you will not occupy my site

I really thought my days of writing posts like this were at a close, what with my commenting policy being obviously published at the top of every page and underneath every single commenting form, but apparently some Occupy $Location facilitators are illiterate in addition to be irreverent, impolite, and inconsiderate.  As such, it is time to clear up a few points.

Point the First: This weblog is private property.  I rent this space from [...]

quote of the day – j.c. fiske

On the one hand, the request to read and offer my thoughts on the particular weblog post discussed below came as part of a mass-spam of various folks on Twitter.

On the other hand, I am always looking for quick-and-easy blogfodder, especially that no one else has touched on before.

And on the gripping hand, I never would have found this quote of the day otherwise:

My parents taught me that a [...]

quote of the day – lowenaffchen

You will note that I have been largely silent regarding the ongoing "Occupy [X Location]" idiocy that seems to be sweeping the nation at the moment, and apart from this post and my previous one, I am going to keep up that trend. Trust me, it is better for both of us.

But I did want to take a moment to highlight a quote from an "Occupy Wall Street" supporter, as seen below:

[...]

what if you held a protest and no one cared?

Apparently some self-absorbed collectivists are making some sort of attempt at not-very-"civil disobedience" on Wall Street in New York City by getting together, protesting, demonstrating, and generally whinging that some people are more economically successful than they are.

No, seriously. If there is any message discernible in the hailstorm of nonsense being spewed forth from that… auspicious… gathering, it is, "Rich people suck, and they should give us money/jobs/etc."

Yeah. Good luck on [...]
