‘walls of the city’ patches

Remember that awesome new logo Oleg Volk dreamed up and I somehow managed to cobble together?

Remember how I promised I would make up patches of that logo

Remember how the shipment was on its way

And remember how fundraisers, moves, job hunts, and busted-ass vehicles got in the way of me actually selling the bloody things?

Well, ok, you might have missed that last item, but not the repercussions of it.  Anywise, most of the above items have been taken care of or at least handled in such a way that they are not immediate, pressing problems, so we can get on to the good stuff.

The patches are now for sale.

Here’s the brief rundown: the patches measure 3” by 3.9”, are stitched using black, maroon, and white thread on a blue twill background, have fully-merrowed edges, and all of them come with velcro hook backing.  If you like, you can also order a piece of velcro loop material, cut to the exact same dimensions/shape as the patch, so you can sew it onto whatever you plan on sticking the patch to.

To give you some idea of scale:

Yes, I know the Rifleman patch doesn’t really fit on the sporran (a Maxpedition Monkey Combat Admin Pouch, for those interested) arranged like that, but it gives you some idea of how big the “walls of the city” patch is.

Patches are $5.00 each, including shipping.

Patches with loop material are $5.50 each, including shipping.

If you want (a) patch(es), PayPal me the appropriate funds at “linoge (at) wallsofthecity (dot) net” with the shipping address you would like them sent to.  As of this post, I have about 67 with hook material and 55 without on-hand, and they will be first-come, first-serve.  Have at it, folks (just be aware that my shipping department is comprised of two destructive Russian Blues; it may take them a few days to get shipments out).

[Update]  I still have Russian Origami t-shirts in XL in stock.  If you want one, and order a patch, I will sell you a shirt at a discount price of $10.  Include a request and appropriate funds in your payment.  [/Update]

hava fundraiser and monderno

So by now, everyone should be aware that I am getting patches stitched up with the new “walls of the city” logo (as conceptualized by Oleg Volk) on them, but they are going to be the traditional fabric patches that have been around since… forever.

mondernoawesomenessNot being folks satisfied with the status quo, however, the boys at Monderno went the high-speed-low-drag route, but in an awesome way:

Yup, that is a patch, with the standard hook side of the hook-and-loop (known as “velcro” in the not-bound-by-copyright communities) backing, but rather than being run through an embroidery machine, it was manufactured out of PVC.  This is the first such patch I have handled myself, and I have to admit, I kind of understand why people go that route – the material is pliable and bendable, it has a very subdued appearance (as you can see, it did not reflect the flash, even though my scarred-and-banged-up Pelican case did), and you certainly do not have to worry about picking.  I am not sure if it offers a greater or lesser degree of detail than embroidery, but click on the image to see the big version, and look at the grey border around the helmet – it is maybe a millimeter thick on the patch.

Anywise, I got mine courtesy of an exchange program with the proprietors of Monderno, but if you want one of your own, you can snag it hereor you can try to win it as part of the “Normal Apocalypse Preparation” Package in the Honored American Veterans Afield fundraiser I am running.  Of course, you can try for the latter and always do the former if that does not work…

And speaking of the fundraiser, today I would like to thank Sean Sorrentino for giving it some publicity and saying some things I wholeheartedly agree with but did not feel appropriately fit in with the fundraiser post itself…

(Obligatory “Screw You” to the FTC:  Brandon at Monderno agreed to send me one of his patches in exchange for one of mine, and, as such, I paid for the bloody thing (or will once my patches come in) and can say whatever I want about it.  Shove off.)

patch update

By my count, including my 10 (which is a variable number), we are up to 53 patches ordered (at least as of this posting).  This means that all patches will cost $6 each; if we can make it to 100 ordered, that will go down to $5 each.

Given the price drop, if you want to increase your order, leave a comment here or at the previous post.

Likewise, once we get closer, let me know if you need the other side of the velcro – the patches will come with hook-side installed on them, but I will probably get at least half with matching loop-side, since I know I do not have a whole lot of things with velcro pre-installed.

And speaking of patches, like I said, these will be about 3” wide by 3.9” tall; this should not be a problem for most sleeve/chest/bag applications, but if you are thinking about putting them on hats, the largest loop-side patch I am aware of on ballcaps is 4” wide and 3” tall.  Personally, I will not mind if you mount the patch sideways, but that will have to be your call.  We could go smaller, but in looking at the stickers I have (same 3”x3.9” dimensions), I worry detail will be lost.
