honored american veterans afield fundraiser and giveaway, the sponsors

Once again, I would like to take a moment to thank all of my readers, commenters, and drop-by-ers for donating, spreading the word, and otherwise getting involved in the recent Honored American Veterans Afield fundraiser I ran here. Despite these being rough financial times and despite tax day being just around the corner, we were able to raise $2190 for that outstanding organization.

At this point, I have been able to get all but [...]

hava fundraiser and dragon leatherworks

I promised you pictures today, and darned if I did not get them up in the nick of time:

(Pictures taken with a new toy, which I dare say will work just fine.)

What we have here is the very, actual holster Dragon Leatherworks is donating to the Honored American Veterans Afield fundraiser I am running.  This one is made specifically to fit a 5” Ruger Blackhawk, but it will also [...]

usfa zip – not a review

[This post is a recounting of the events surrounding my attempt to test-fire the USFA ZiP pistol as I perceived and understand them, and is based off my own experience with the firearm as well as conversations with knowledgeable friends, gunsmiths, and ammunition manufacturers.]

What follows is not a review of the United States Firearms ZiP pistol I received for test and evaluation recently; I have concluded that I will be passing on reviewing [...]

hava fundraiser, preliminary details

Regular readers will know that I have been hinting at a fundraiser for Honored American Veterans Afield next month, and plans are currently in the works to make that happen.

However, experience and observation has shown that combining a giveaway with the fundraiser tends to work out better for the organization I am fundraising for, so I am working on that as well.  Thus far I have some patches (both E. TN MHI and [...]

russian origami t-shirts – grab them now!

Two-dozen shirts down, another sixty-odd to go before you all buy as many as you said you would. As if I needed further evidence that online polls are not scientific nor necessarily representative of reality.

In any case, the Russian Origami t-shirts are still for sale, and I still have inventory in all sizes (M-XXXL), so get your order in now! And I do mean that seriously, with not a lot of hyperbole – [...]

these soft cotton dresses feel kinda nice

Want to know how to help people not care – and possibly not even notice – that you are openly carrying a firearm in public?

This is how:

Yes, that is indeed one of the mythical 5.11 Tactical Duty Kilts. No, I have not yet gone out in public like that (though I am sorely tempted to wear it to work tomorrow). Yes, I made that hiking stick, contrary to Our Glorious [...]

dragon leatherworks, in the news

We all know that Dragon Leatherworks makes good holsters, but now more of Eastern Tennessee can find out (if you are using an RSS reader, you will probably have to click through to see the video):

Yup, that would be Dennis, the proprietor, on regional television during prime-time on a Friday evening, and I have to admit that I am remarkably impressed at how positive and salutary the segment was.

I mean, [...]

as seen on tv

A little birdie (who happens to have a good bit of leather dye on his hands) told me that WATE‘s “Made in Tennessee” segment just wrapped up filming at the headquarters of Dragon Leatherworks.

No real word on when the segment will air, but I will try to record it when it does.

Also, if that is not “normalization”, I do not know what is. And speaking of not knowing things, are you [...]

made it to the bigtime

Remember how I mentioned that Dragon Leatherworks was producing copies of the lunchbox he made for Abby Sciuto in NCIS? Well, that run of 500 is now open for your orders, and while not many have come in over the past month or so, something tells me if you want one, you might want to get your order in now.

Why?

Only because Dennis and his lunchbox got featured in the local dead-tree [...]

taurus pt740 slim – a mini-review

Back when I took Hapkido on a regular basis, we were taught very carefully to not only keep our fingers spread as much as possible (unlike Taekwondo, and despite being generally taught in the same schools, Hapkido is a very much open-handed style), but also to grip with only our middle, ring, and pinkie fingers, leaving our index finger available to "point" in the direction we wanted the grip to go.

On the one [...]

abby sciuto’s lunchbox

You see the lunchbox that NCIS’ Abby Sciuto (played by Pauley Perrette) is carrying here, in episode 9×22, “Playing with Fire”:

If that is not terribly clear (and, unfortunately, it is not), she set it on her desk, as visible here:

Well, as I might have mentioned before, Dragon Leatherworks produced that fine piece of leather craftsmanship… but here is the cool thing:  Starting on 01JUN12 (June 1st, 2012, for you [...]

in case you did not set your tivos

Do not forget – 2000 tonight, CBS (whatever channel that may be in your locale), NCIS, Abby Sciuto’s lunch box, courtesy of Dragon Leatherworks.

[Update]In talking with Dennis, it would appear as though the prop master got his episodes mildly mixed up. From their titles, the one yesterday and the next two are all interrelated, so it figures that they were all probably filmed about the same time. The lunch box will still be [...]

gets the point across

This:

… is apparently going to be showing up on some episode of NCIS in the very near future, courtesy of Dragon Leatherworks. Dennis seems to be greatly diversifying his lineup, given that peculiar little container is destined to be a lunch box for Abby Sciuto, who is apparently a rather popular character on the series (I cannot say as though I have ever watched an entire episode):

The lovely and talented [...]

steel by your side

I can tell you as much as you want to know about the sheath: it was fabricated by Dennis at Dragon Leatherworks, it has a standard cow-leather backing with an ostrich-skin overlay on top, it holds the knife quite well and is designed for off-hand reverse-grip carry, and it is apparently going to be pretty much the only one of its kind for the foreseeable future (apparently knife-sheath-making takes more time/effort than either of us [...]

a spotter for the superlaser

A couple of rather disparate thoughts were rattling around my head for the past few days, but they did not completely congeal until I read this comment from Oliver Perry:

It was discussed, perhaps here, the notion that we are able to develop a shitstorm when something goes wrong, but the author could not recall an atta boy resulting in a built business.

I currently carry in a crossbreed, but my next holster will [...]

soldiers’ angels fundraiser – impossible without you

Now that the Soldiers’ Angels Fundraiser and Giveaway is concluded and the winners have been announced, it is time for a few "thank you"s.

First, I would like to thank Better Half – this shindig has taken up a lot of time, with more to come, and shipping out all of this stuff is going to be a borderline nightmare. However, she supported me and my crazy ideas, and here we are.

Secondly, [...]

the wyvern and soldiers’ angels

So by now, everyone should be aware that an amazing Dragon Leatherworks pocket holster for the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 is part of the Soldiers’ Angels Fundraiser and Giveaway I am running, but I bet there are some things you might not know.

For example, did you know that this holster has been named the Wyvern?

And that you can procure one of your own for between $45 and $120, depending on [...]
