honored american veterans afield fundraiser and giveaway, the sponsors

Once again, I would like to take a moment to thank all of my readers, commenters, and drop-by-ers for donating, spreading the word, and otherwise getting involved in the recent Honored American Veterans Afield fundraiser I ran here. Despite these being rough financial times and despite tax day being just around the corner, we were able to raise $2190 for that outstanding organization.

At this point, I have been able to get all but [...]

hava fundraiser, preliminary details

Regular readers will know that I have been hinting at a fundraiser for Honored American Veterans Afield next month, and plans are currently in the works to make that happen.

However, experience and observation has shown that combining a giveaway with the fundraiser tends to work out better for the organization I am fundraising for, so I am working on that as well.  Thus far I have some patches (both E. TN MHI and [...]

used up my quota for the year

Surprisingly, I do occasionally get good ideas… Better Half and I threw a party this weekend for her birthday, and she wanted to do Krystal / White Castle sized BBQ sandwiches… but neither of us knew where exactly to get hamburger buns of that diminutive size. I thought about it for a little while, and then realized we could accomplish much the same thing by taking an average, Mark 1 Mod 0 hot dog bun [...]

armory racks two-gun – a review

Sometimes, I like the do-it-yourself solution, and when I was faced with the somewhat annoying prospect of having my carry firearms rattling around in a dresser drawer, I went and solved that problem myself.  However, sometimes, you can find a commercial-off-the-shelf solution that will work far better than anything I can whip up myself.

In this case, my little pegboard construct was a wonderful fix… until we bought a new bedroom set, complete with [...]

soldiers’ angels fundraiser – impossible without you

Now that the Soldiers’ Angels Fundraiser and Giveaway is concluded and the winners have been announced, it is time for a few "thank you"s.

First, I would like to thank Better Half – this shindig has taken up a lot of time, with more to come, and shipping out all of this stuff is going to be a borderline nightmare. However, she supported me and my crazy ideas, and here we are.

Secondly, [...]

armory racks and soldiers’ angels

If you are anything like me (and, for your sake, it would probably be better if you were not), you are constantly trying to figure out better ways to do things.  In the past, I was not satisfied with how my carry firearms were basically sliding around loose in their dresser drawer, so I went and engineered a solution that held everything in place.  Of course, as such things are wont to go, we recently [...]

[1900 10JAN12 Update: Changes/updates to this page since 2100 03JAN12 have been italicized.]

I knew announcing the Soldiers’ Angels Fundraiser and Giveaway the week before Thanksgiving was kind of a bad idea, but I wanted to get it out there and get the ball rolling, and now we are going to go back, go over the details, and pimp [...]

nice rack

Has anyone had any experience with the Armory Racks series of pistol racks, or the Hyskore Modular Pistol Rack (sold at the NRA Store), or any of the other variations on a theme out there?

Better Half and I recently changed our dresser solutions, and while the drawers are now narrower (meaning my patent-pending-pending pegboard firearm storage solution will no longer fit), they are also taller, which leads me to believe building another one [...]
