I used to be a fairly handy shot with a simple recurve bow when I was a child – maybe not Legolas quality, but I could consistently whack and/or nick bullseyes at ranges where they were difficult to make out – but like so many other things, I rather got out of practice over the years. Our backyard is almost perfect for setting up a bow range, but I have been wishy-washing about what type of bow to get, and what company, and what materials, and yadda yadda. That community is almost more complex than firearms.
Well, Bob S may have solved my conundrum: meet the Primal Gear Unlimited Folding Bow. Superficially it is “just” a straight bow, but things get interesting when you fold the limbs of the bow into the body, and it collapses down into a 23″ x 1.5″ x 1.5″ form; can you say “trunk bow” (something I do not think any state would object to, unlike trunk rifles)? Your arrows will end up being longer than your bow. Plus, the folding functionality allows the same chassis to use 50 pound or 55 pound arms, or replace the arms should they break or be damaged.
That is pretty awesome.
No, it may not be the most epic bow in the world – it can sling shafts at about 160fps, compared to 300+ for mid-range compound bows – but at a current price less than $150, I would not exactly ask it to be. It does seem like a hoot that will not take up a lot of space in your closet, though…
