Own a piece of history!
In 1968, Steve McQueen charged across the screen in the critically acclaimed movie “Bullitt“, which featured one of the best car chase scenes in all of Hollywood’s history. However, one of the biggest characters in the movie never had any speaking lines – a 1968 390 V8 Ford Mustang GT Fastback painted in, of course, hunter green.
40 years later, Ford released the 2008 Bullitt Edition Mustang GT, but before that, they wanted to ensure people would be interested in purchasing such a thing. So they built a series of about 20 pre-production vehicles to use at the LA Auto Show, in publicity photos, and one lucky vehicle even got to reproduce some of the iconic chase scene. The pre-production cars are mechanically and functionally identical to the final production run of Bullitts (which, in turn, are identical to Mustang GTs… only better), but they’re a pretty select crowd indeed.
I bought this car from a Mazda dealership up around Chicago towards the end of 2009, and they apparently got it from an auto auction clearinghouse; apparently no one really knew what they had. Since then, I have performed all the required maintenance, changed its oil every ~3000 miles, and moderately upgraded its appearance and performance. Please note that all modifications listed below are easily reversible in about two hours, total, should you choose to do so.
The Bullitt is mechanically and functionally sound, I have all of the maintenance documentation and paperwork for it, and it is a total blast to drive. So why am I selling this awesome car, if there’s nothing mechanically or aesthetically wrong with it? Simple: it does not have four wheel drive, clearance to get over much more than a speed bump, or space to hold a lot more than carry-on luggage – it *is*, after all, a Mustang. We’re moving soon, and I think it is time for something a little more… functional. That decision is your gain, though.

– In May of 2010, the Bullitt was in an accident that necessitated the replacement of basically everything on the front-left side of the car: fender, bumper, wheel, tire, suspension, hood, etc. The repairs were professionally completed by the Collision Center at Mercedes-Benz of Knoxville on Parkside Drive (a USAA-authorized repair center), and you cannot tell it ever happened.
– The car has been my daily driver, and has minor wear to the left bolster of the driver’s seat, some minor scratches around the driver’s door handle, and a few minor chips on the leading edge of the hood and bumper; I have tried to photograph and document all of this (additional photos on request).
– 70,000+ miles (this will increase the longer the listing is up).
