constitutional law is complicated, but it does not have to be

Unfortunately, the folks who are the ones who most need to read this easy-to-understand explanation of "shall not be infringed", the sources for this consolidated explanation of the Second Amendment’s intent, and the clarification of the specific language employed in the Second Amendment are also the folks who will refuse to do so because it challenges, undermines, and outright destroys their own preconceived notions about that particular sentence and the rights it protects.

And lest you think I am unfairly stereotyping folks, all available evidence indicates that "militant ignorance" is a feature to the anti-rights community, not a bug.

Erf. Enough of a link-dump for you?

    I have 3 roommates: a Republican, a Democrat, and a Canadian.

The (other) Republican and I regularly make jokes and comments on the actions of our left-leaning governance that the Democrat generally responds to with “what are you talking about?” and we generally respond with “what, you didn’t hear about [Obama's 57-state initiative]?” The Canadian generally stays out of it(though when he does end up involved, he’s typically Right-leaning)

I suppose I’m partly to blame. I have found myself “protecting” the Democrat from some of the things that happen, because I don’t want to break his poor little brain. He’s demonstrated a couple of times that he’s happily drinking as much Kool-Aid as the Liberal media will dish out.

  • Some people do not know better because they literally do not know to know better. I feel kind of sorry for them…

“[Y]ou can’t go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You can’t.”

  • Interesting quote that… was he speaking from experience?

@ Linoge: I’m sorry, were you being sarcastic? It doesn’t transmit through the internet well, you know…

  • Actually, despite rather liking the actor, I knew next to nothing about his past.

Now that I have looked it up, though, it is a shame he is a prohibited person, but he deserves credit for recovering his life.

  • [...] Linoge linked to a couple of articles last week, and one of them – once I finally got around to reading it – tripped one of those switches in my brain that said “Oh! Now I get it!” regarding the deceptively clumsy phrasing of the Second Amendment. [...]
