no blog for you

I have been too busy today digging this:

… out of this:

Bonus points if you can name the make, model, and caliber without checking any of the proof marks / stamps.

And, yes, there will be more on this new addition in the future.

  • After consulting a reputable internet firearms guide, I think it’s safe to say that your new handgun is an AK-47.

Nonono, it’s obviously a select-fire, fully-automatic, burst-fire, anti-railroad, anti-aircraft M-16 assault rifle with the shoulder thing that goes up (as seen on the back end of the barrel). We need to get these off the streets! Thanks, Linoge, for doing your part in getting it off the street and giving it a good, loving home =D

My real guess: Webley .455, not sure which model exactly but I’d guess VI. Make sure to pair it with a nice Pattern 14 or traditional SMLE. The .303 Brit ain’t the best round, but the quality of those rifles helps make up for it. Of course, if you can get yourself an American version of the P14, a.k.a. the M1917 or “American Enfield,” you get all the benefits of the rifle with the awesomeness of G-d’s Own Caliber, Old Testament.

Glock. It’s gotta be a Glock.

@ Mussorgsky: was gonna say, “Isn’t that a Webley?” In my own speak, “Indiana Jones revolver.”

    Well it IS exploded….

Linogue – I believe it is part of your Malcom Reynolds collection. In which case i say MK VI .455

    @ dave w:
    Just a flesh wound…

Now he’ll need a Broomhandle Luger a-la our favourite Corellian. It’ll help his “smugglers in space” collection.

Don’t know what it was but you killed it.

  • @ wfgodbold: Got it in one!

@ Mussorgsky: Close but no banana – Webley Mark IV, in .38 S&W. I figured it would pair nicely with my flop-top Springfield, but, aside from that, I really want an Ishapore Enfield… except that I could never afford to shoot it these days.

@ Ted N: An evil black one!

@ Volfram: Amusingly, his Webley got the least airtime of all of his various pistols… He, of course, had the more-manly caliber, though, at least according to some sources.

@ dave w: You know me so well ;) . Sadly, much like the TT33 I have (a hammerless 1903 was used in Firefly), this is just a .38 Mark IV, not the .455 Mark VI that actually appeared on-screen.

@ Mussorgsky: Unless he has already sold it, I have a standing offer from a friend of mine to buy his Broomhandle… Just not sure what I would do with it… aside from call it My Precious.

@ James: Trust me, it needed it.

It is still the most iconic Indiana Jones gun, and it does feature prominently in the single longest and most memorable gunfight in all 4 movies. Which also takes place in the best one.

And that’s why I want one.

  • True on all counts. Except there were only three movies. And I really need to re-watch them.

Unfortunately, if you want the specific Webley Indy used, be prepared to fork over megabucks – his was apparently a “Webley Green”, of which very few were produced.

@ Linoge: Yeah, I’m not really sure why they went directly from #1 to #3 either.

    Yeah, this is a .380/200; Indy used a .455.

And it should shoot nicely. Lyman makes a mold to throw a 200-grain round-nose .38 bullet; lubed with Liquid Alox and loaded as-cast, should shoot to point of aim with the right powder charge.

  • Heh, I have not even gotten into reloading yet, much less casting… I imagine this caliber is going to help with at least one of those, though :) .

Ooops! Mainspring auxiliary lever is there in the photograph, but not the mainspring. Time to take it apart again to rephotograph.
