Is there a market for a nicer, prettier, leather version of something like this? Instead of being MOLLE-mounted, it would be on a shoulder strap, or maybe even belt loops, and would operate on the same basic principle. It seems hunters are more fond of pouches that hold whole boxes of shells as they are, rather than in little loops, but not being a hunter, I am not sure what would be preferred.
Why am I asking? Oh, no reason…

BassPro may list those as hunting accessories, but they’re explicitly designed for clays. When I’m hunting I much prefer loops – they keep me from (A) making noise, and (B) dropping an entire box of shells in the corn stubble or creek.
Aren’t Saiga’s magazine loaded?
@ ZerCool: If you do not mind my asking, what kind of rig do you normally use?
@ jetaz: Well, not automatically, no
. This is not really for me, per se, I was simply coming up with random ideas yesterday.
I have to wonder if Cowboy Action types could use something like this…
I’m actually toying around with an idea for a 12-ga pump-action speed-loader. If it works like I think it would, I could reload my 5+1 (at least the 5 in the magazine tube) in a second or two, and carry several of the speed-loaders. When I’m done with school (very soon) and have time to play with it, I’ll have a better idea if it’s feasible or not.
It wouldn’t be as useful for hunting in my neck of the woods — total capacity has to be 3 shells (2+1) or less, with nasty penalties for not having a limiter device (usually a stick or dowel in the mag tube) — but local laws may vary.
When I’m hunting, I just use the loops that are attached to my vest.
@ Archer: I do not mean to be a Debbie Downer, but http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=18303/Product/SHOTGUN-SPEED-LOADER.
No idea if that is the rough idea of what you were looking for, and I have less of an idea of how it works, but there it is
.
@ Heather: Ah, but would you like something nicer?
I have no idea how that setup works either, except that there’s a mounting bracket that needs to be physically pre-attached to the firearm. It may or may not function similarly to my Grand Idea.
I was going more low-tech, simpler (read: doesn’t attach to firearm), and nowhere NEAR $59.95 + S&H. It might end up looking like crap, but if it gets the job done, who cares? Aesthetics are easier to add to function than the other way around.
Hey, if it is cheaper, and it works, it is by definition better. Aesthetics are something the gamers can worry about; I just like things that work.
‘Course, that is why I have a growing fondness for Saiga’s, quirks and all – reloads are stupid-simple.
