new rule

P1010102At least for me, but it might be for you too.

Any time you make a purchase at a store that stocks >10-round magazines for your handguns and rifles that can accept them (otherwise known as "high-capacity magazines" by morons and "normal-capacity magazines" by people who know what those firearms were designed to use*), buy at least one. If your budget can only afford one, that is shiny. If your budget can afford more, buy them.

Even without touching on the mind-numbing stupidity of trying to ban these magazines, the simple truth is that mags are disposable items. Oh, sure, when those "disposable items" sometimes cost up to and including $50 a pop, you really do not like thinking about them in those terms, but bodies crack and bend out of spec, springs wear out, and followers do Hephaestus-knows-what in there, so it is always good to have spares on-hand should you need them.

And it is even better indeed to thumb your nose at petty authoritarians at every available opportunity.

(* – There are, of course, exceptions (for example, the Ruger 10/22 platform was originally designed for 10-round magazines), but they are rare.)

  • I pretty much agree with your rule.

Sadly, here in Canuckistan, we are limited to 5 rounds in the magazine for semi-auto centre fire long guns, (except for the M1 Garand) and 10 in the magazine for pistols. The only exception would be to use an LAR 15 mag in an AR, which would then be legal for the 10 rounds. Another case would be using a 10 round AIA M10 mag in one of our Norinco M305 guns, or a Springfield Armory M1A.

We continue to fight to have this repealed.

  • Wait, so some 10 round magazines are legal, but others are not? Are they still producing LAR15 magazines?

Were you ever allowed to have 10 rounders or beyond? Was there any grandfathering?

  • I followed this rule during today’s trip to Sportsman’s Warehouse, buying a Ruger BX-25 and some other items related to your rule….

  • Awesome :) . Spread the Good Word!

  • [...] in the short-term. However, if you are concerned, it might be a good time to revisit the “New Rule,” proposed by the Walls of the City Blog, and add an extra normal capacity magazine to any [...]
