I do not know who the speaker is, and I do not know whose horrific idea this was*, but this aired on the big screens during the recent Democrat National Convention:
We are committed to all people. We do believe you can use government in a good way. Government is the only thing we all belong to. We go to different churches, different clubs, but we’re together as a part of our city or our county or our state, and our nation.
I will start by giving the moron behind this video the benefit of the doubt – perhaps he/she/they were using "belong to" in the same way one might use "are members of", just like one is a member of a church or club, as the narrator goes on to mention. However, even if you were to abandon all of the social and economic history that leads one to believe the Democrat Party was not using that particular definition of the phrase, it is still wrong – I am not a member of the government; if anything, I am one of the ~240,000,000 bosses our government has. The only "members" of our government are those people who choose to seek their employment or volunteer their time directly to their city, county, state, local, or federal governments, and that sure as hell does not encompass "all" Americans.
If, however, we dispense with the frivolity of giving the Democrat Party the benefit of the doubt, the only appropriate response to such a statement is all of two words: F*ck you.
I shall not apologize for employing language I generally try to avoid on this page; in this particular instance, it is wholly warranted. I belong to no one. I belong to nothing. And anyone attempting to claim or exert ownership of my person is tantamount to a slaver coming after me with chains, and neither should be surprised at the response their behavior evokes.
The government of America belongs to the people, not the other way around, and if a segment of the government does not comprehend that rather significant detail, then they no longer need to be part of that government. I sincerely hope the voters will keep this video in mind come November.
(* – The Obama Administration and Democrat National Convention are desperately attempting to absolve themselves of any responsibility for this travesty of a video, claiming "The video in question was produced and paid for by the host committee of the city of Charlotte." That is fantastic, Sparky, but either the entirety of the DNC is run by brain-dead morons who did not vet and consider all of the video and material being displayed during the convention, or you knew this was going to happen and allowed it to anywise. So which is it going to be – idiot, or tyrant?)
