The Avengers – Joss Whedon has been my master for years now, so that did not change a whole lot; instead, allow me to say this: while it may not have been the best movie ever, The Avengers was unquestionably the best execution of the non-stop comic-book-adapted-to-movie concept Hollywood seems so very fond of these days, and they did an absolutely amazing job pulling together all of those disparate characters and personalities in a believable – and occasionally hilarious – fashion.
(All that said, damnit, Joss, STOP THAT.)

At that moment, in the theater at midnight, a single loud voice yelled out “Whedon!” in a drawn out scream reminiscent of Kirk yelling out “Khan!”
I knew exactly how he felt.
Saw it this weekend with the kids. All three of us loved it.
Saw it saturday with the wife. My geek sense isn’t strong enough, because I’m still missing these references.
Like I said: Worth. Every. Penny.
But, yeah. Stop it, Joss.
@ Rich Hailey: I may have unsettled my seatmates with a somewhat loud, “Damn you Joss!” Wish I had thought of KHHHAAAAAANNNNN, though.
@ Usagi: Aside from some minor plot incongruities, there was scant little to actually dislike
.
@ ted n: Go watch a movie called Serenity, written and directed by the same guy who did The Avengers. Preferrably, watch Serenity after seeing the TV show it was based on, “Firefly”. You will get it, trust me, and your time will definitely be well-spent.
@ Jake: This is one of the few movies I might actually consider paying to see on the big screen again.
“I love how you lose control and become an enormous green rage monster.”
“But by the way, that science stuff you do is pretty wicked too.”
Saw the 3D version yesterday with my son and one of his friends. The first 1/3rd or so of the movie bordered on being boring. However, once the invasion started, the movie achieved greatness. Everything was so much like like a real Marvel comic. Weedon’s snense of humor shines through and Cobie Muldar looks real good in a jumpsuit.
Yeah… the exposition was a bit lengthy, but it was necessary, especially if someone walked into The Avengers cold without seeing the “prequels”; though, in that case, they are liable to be completely lost regardless.
And I have to admit, I never served in an outfit that had uniforms quite like that…
