Battleship – It may be based off a game
, its actual ties to that game might be a little… tenuous, and the "I believe" button-whacking may have been hard and fast*, but you did not really think about that during the movie much, and damned if it was not exactly what it was advertised to be – a delicious-computer-graphics-filled visual orgy documenting the United States Navy kicking some unfriendly aliens’ ass, and I can live with that.
(On a somewhat related note, does anyone know if any of the Old Guys who materialized out of the woodwork on the Missouri were really part of her original crew, or any BB’s crew? Because that would just be awesome.)
(* – Seriously… literally save the freakin’ world, get a Silver Star? And that is just the tip of the iceberg that threatened to, but did not quite, sink the USS Suspension of Disbelief.)

It could have been a gold star…
Point.
The Missouri being a museum, but still having ordnance aboard, and the humans communicating by radio waves moving faster than light is what I had trouble with.
Not just HE rounds for the big guns, but apparently, a nice stash of .50 linked, as well as working M2HB machine guns. And bunkerage of an adequate supply of DFM to get underway for a little bit.
We won’t even get into the fact that those boilers probably need some pretty significant TLC for them to light off again. Or that each turret had a 200+ man well trained crew to reach 2 RPM that the big guns were capable of.
No, my belief wasn’t suspended in the least. I used to work with a 16″ NEC qualified GMG1, who, if he saw the movie, would probably have fits.
@ Divemedic: And do not forget the FTL “comet” showing up; that must have been uncomfortable as hell, spinning through light years of space like that.
@ Mark: Oh, you know those old guys stashed away M2s and 16″ rounds when they mothballed the ship. Duh.
Seriously, though, we did know that the Mo was going to turn into a literal deus ex machina, so the specific details of how they accomplished such a thing were somewhat immaterial to me, especially since those details involved a BB doing a broadside against an alien warship.
