If you want to customize the phone then my favorites are SBSettings and Sprintimize. Search YouTube for videos of their features. If you use Google Voice there are some great hacks that integrate it with the phone. I also like:
- AskToCall
- FolderEnhancer
- Mail Enhancer
- Weather Icon
Suggestion. Don’t install them all at once. Try out one or two then try the next one. Sometimes they two different apps will try to hack the same iphone features.
Titanium Backup, for sure. Not only does it let you really back up all of your data, you can freeze the carrier bloatware you don’t want. Or delete it, but that may prevent your phone getting OTA updates.
Check out XDA Developers for custom ROMs. That’s the only way to really tap into your phone’s full capabilities.

“I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I only love that which they defend.” by J.R.R. Tolkein
Barnacle Wifi is nice to have–it has been helpful to me to tether my laptop to my phone connection when our hotel didn’t have wifi while on vacation.
Titanium backup is good too, and if you want to do a custom ROM, ROM Manager makes it pretty simple.

“AnyRing” is a rather nice little luxury. Lets’ you use any audio file as a ringer.
The iBigBoss range of packages are rather nice. A decent SSH client and an FTP client…
Happy hunting…
Guess my phone is a gelding. After a careful examination of my mobile phone, I found no roots.
Thanks everyone! Digging about now
