tactical tuesday

Got cammies (or any other kind of outdoorsy gear/clothing)?  Is it waterproof?  Why not

(And, no, that stuff will not make it 100% waterproof, but it sure as hell beats your average cotton weave, and no, it will not significantly alter the coloration of the fabric you use it on (in fact, it seems to be designed not to).  This post brought to you by a particularly damp airsoft game.)

  • The question I have is, how do those treatments affect the IR/UV behaviour of the fabrics that camouflage clothing (at least military-grade) is made of?

I’d prefer being wet to glowing brightly in IR because the waterproofing defeated the low-IR treatment on my cammies…

  • Honestly, I have not the foggiest, but this definitely was not meant to be advice for boys in the field or Over There. If I (or the vast majority of Americans) am worrying about IR reflectivity, I am probably already dead.

  • MAJ Mike

I’ve got Goretex gear left over from when I wore a green suit. Makes me almost as waterproof as a duck’s a$$.

  • Oh, there is no question that GoreTex or OmniTech or any of those will beat the pants off this spray stuff, in terms of efficacy and longevity, but that increased quality comes at a cost. That little $5 spray can did three hats and a full set of BDUs, and I am ok with that :) .
