now witness the firepower of this fully operational intertube

Since everyone’s favorite company president, Paul Helinski, was having such a hard time comprehending the nature of the internet and how exactly it works, I thought I would take a moment and give him some easy-to-understand, graphical pointers.

First, run a Google search for “gunsamerica”.  If you do it sometime near the time of this post’s writing, check out return number seven.

gunsamericagooglesearch

Yup, that would be my little post, put up all of seven hours ago, showing up on the front page of Google returns for your company.  Not bad for a “nobody”, eh?

And that, Paul, is how the Internet works.  That is why the NSSF is “allowing” “nobodies” like me to show up to their (not your) SHOT show.  The times are changing, Paul, and the days of “official” media are over – you can either get with the times, or you can be left behind.

You can still salvage this situation, Paul – all it takes is an honest, genuine, public apology, and I will be more than happy to repost it for you.  But part of that is admitting you screwed up.

  • Showing up as #4 for me, and that’s after clearing my Google Web History.

    Wow, sucks to be them.

  • And he’s … multiple-downed again. More. An “apology” that, in effect, says “No, not you guys, I meant those other guys.

Alas, I have to get on a plane in the morning and will be working 16 hour days for the next week, so I will not be able to be as lively in this discussion as I would like. But please understand that I didn’t mean any disrespect for the couple dozen real bloggers out there who have been hard charging for many years out there, nor was I suggesting that just us and Jeff Quinn be allowed into media day. Some of the comments about this post came up in my google notifications, and some of the people whining about what I said are just the people who would be included in what I suggested, because they have been blogging for many years and have thousands of readers per month, they attend the blogger conventions and have been active in the gun blogger community. I was talking about the guys who installed wordpress and registered a domain a month before the show, or “blog” three times per year for a print magazine website that has 16 people visiting it every month, and who **will not** post anything about media day or the show. Jeff knows what I am talking about and I am surprised you don’t. I suggested at the end of last year that NSSF google around and see who actually did post blog stuff about the show to qualify them for media day next year.

Please say Hi if you are going to media day, or stop by the booth. If you mention this post you get a t-shirt you can burn in efigy for a youtube video due to your outrage at my inflammatory and just plain not nice comments. We are booth 1925. -ph

  • @ ExurbanKevin: Sadly, I seem to have slid overnight. Still near the top for “paul helinski gunsamerica”, though :) .

@ ZerCool: Out of curiosity, where did he write that? I have refreshed the NSSF page, but cannot find that comment…

Shorter version: “My life is so hard. I have to work sixteen hours this week. In Vegas. You guys have it SO easy, so shut up.”

Well, we are MORE than happy to make your hours shorter and give you less work to to do, Paul. Keep it up, and that’s exactly what will happen.

And as for burning your shirt in effigy, no thank you, we’ll do worse: We won’t link to you, and we won’t buy from you.

Living well is the best revenge.

  • How strange… unless I use that specific link you just gave, the comment does not show up. All the more reason NOT to use Disqus, I guess.

And, yeah, we can definitely help with the whole “heavy workload” problem, no worries on that count!
