the strange bedfellows of "gun control"

A little over two years ago, law-abiding open carrier Meleanie Hain took Lebanon, PA County Sheriff Michael DeLeo to court for his capricious and whimsical revocation of her Pennsylvania license to carry for lawfully openly carrying her firearm to her daughter’s soccer game.  Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, Mrs. Hain was violently murdered by her husband, and while her estate attempted to move her lawsuit forward in her name, it was eventually thrown out by a District Court Judge.

Regardless of the merits of her LTC-related lawsuit, her senseless and pointless murder presented an opportunity for “gun control” supporters to reach across the aisle and join their pro-rights opponents in a moment of remembrance and sorrow.  Unsurprisingly enough, those anti-rights cultists squandered the moment.

There were claims that she “deserved” to be murdered.  There were assholes claiming her murder “proved them right”.  There were anti-rights cultists dancing in her still-cooling blood and using her murder as a springboard to demand more pointless “gun control”.

Do not believe me?  Well, we need only look at the words of a certain James Charles Michael Bannerman, who, at the time, was writing under the online moniker of “Laci the Chinese Crested”, and said:

jamescharlesmichaelbannermanmeleaniehain1Hey, I don’t mind you having guns. In fact, I hope you gun cretins all shoot yourselves and make the world a better place just like Melanie did. No, that’s not hate, just a sincere desire to see a better world, which this will be without your sorry arses preventing proper gun laws from being adopted.

Yes, that would be Bannerman advocating for somewhere north of 80,000,000 law-abiding American citizens to shoot themselves in order to “make the world a better place” for totalitarian bigots like him.  And this is what he considered to be an appropriate remembrance for an innocent woman?

Unfortunately, it only gets worse from there:

jamescharlesmichaelbannermanmeleaniehain2I only rejoice that someone who was a fool has been removed from this earth and I wish that the rest of you idiots would see sense, no matter how foolish that hope might be.

Consider Bannerman’s word choices carefully – “rejoices” means “to be very happy, be delighted, exult; to feel joy”.  In short, this anti-rights cultist felt joy at the senseless and violent murder of a woman, simply because she happened to ascribe to an opinion that runs contrary to his.  Joy.  Delighted.  Very happy.

Meleanie Hain was unquestionably a “gun violence” victim by the definitions put forward by the anti-rights cultists, and yet not only was she demonized and reviled by the same, her murder was celebrated by the same people who would exploit her death to enact more unconstitutional “gun control”.

Why do I bring this up all these years later?

Well, it would appear as though James Bannerman has taken to hanging out at the weblog of professional “gun violence” victim exploiter, Joan Peterson, and commiserating about how mean us pro-rights advocates are for pointing out that gun control supporters frequently argue from logically, morally, or emotionally weak positions.  Considering how much time and effort Joan has expended in setting herself up as a “gun violence” victim (when, in truth, she is as much a “gun violence” victim as I am an Alzheimer’s victim), I wonder if Joan is aware of James’ perspective on people like her?

I wonder how Joan would feel if Bannerman had said those things about Joan’s sister, Barbara Berglund?

In any case, it is an important perspective for pro-rights advocates for us to bear in mind.  “Gun control” supporters like Bannerman do want us dead for daring to have differing opinions, and are willing to use the government to kill us if they have to.  Other “gun control” supporters with stiffer spines are willing to murder us themselves.  Countless “gun control” supporters want to ban firearms, ban our rights, harass and bully us, intimidate us and our families, and silence us by any means available.

These are the people we are fighting against, folks.  These are the people we would defend our rights against.  And these are the people we cannot permit to win.  Ever.

  • Yeah, thanks for reminding me. You know, it’s a bad thing to get spun up so hard when I’m 4 hours into a 11 hour drive home after NorthCoast II.

I once met Meleanie. She seemed like a nice enough person, and her friends were very devoted to her. I went to her funeral. I still can’t understand how people like Laci could lack so much humanity. You’d think that that level of psycopathy would make it difficult to make a decent living.

Sean just has a way with words, so I have very little to add other than:
Someday the world will be peaceful and perfect, but that day is not today. It’s probably not tomorrow, either, therefore I own firearms.

Is it telling that such disgusting comments don’t really surprise me any more?

Looks like Laci’s from here in the UK. Might even be connected with our local group of habitual liars, the Gun Control Network.

Given his/her apparent love of violence towards innocent people, wouldn’t surprise me if he was one of the filth who attacked Mike Yardley at a gun control convention.

  • @ Sean D Sorrentino: Unfortunately, a pretty solid case could be built that Bannerman’s mental and sociological shortcomings actually help him in his chosen profession…

More seriously, I apologize for bringing up an undoubtedly sore point for everyone, but it bears dwelling upon. The “gun control” supporters / anti-rights cultists / petty authoritarians really do want us dead, simply because we dare to disagree with them and stand up for our individual rights. That reality alone invalidates so many of their arguments that it needs to be brought up whenever possible, no matter how despicable its existence may be.

@ Matt: Hell, some people’s ideas of a “perfect” world are exactly why I own firearms, and will continue to do so. See Bannerman there wanting the death of millions in order to enact his idea of “perfection”.

Which could explain why he so very hates the notion of us owning firearms – we can, and will, say “no” with meaning if he ever had the spine to start trying to enact his dreams.

@ Juan A Be The Luchador: “Gun control” supporters really are such friendly people, are they not?

@ Gareth A: Bannerman has… shall we say a “history”… of verbally abusing – and attempting to legally abuse – pro-rights advocates that stand up to him or his desired legislation. While he might not have actually been at the event you are referring to, he is unquestionably the type of person who would do that kind of thing.

And, no, things like this do not surprise me any more either, but they still bear remembering and highlighting.

    “…and attempting to legally abuse…”

Okay, the verbal I get – his usual shtick is verbal abuse to defend lies. Hell, that’s probably why Sparky has him on his site, company for JadeGold.

But I’ve been out of the debates a while, did you report on the legal abuse stuff?

  • I did not. The person who was targeted by the legal abuse has not chosen to make the specifics public knowledge (so far as I am aware), so I will keep to those wishes. Suffice to say that Bannerman’s attempts not only failed miserably, but were laughed at by the very governmental entities he attempted to enlist :) .

Why get on Bannerman’s case for wanting to make the world a better place? He just joins other luminaries like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, the KKK and many others who all wanted to make the world a better place. They only differ in their definition of “better place” and their methods for achieving it.

  • I did not want to cheapen the original post by bringing up the concept, but Bannerman’s concepts run right along the same lines as that of Serenity‘s “Operative” – make all of them better worlds… by means of killing off anyone who is not “better”. And, arguably, that bloodthirsty tactic is the one common theme amongst all those individuals and organizations we have named, including James…

“Looks like Laci’s from here in the UK”

@Gareth – he likes to pretend so, but in actuality he is a lawyer living in Pennsylvania.

  • @ Ruffridr: All the evidence seems to indicate that our not-really-expat really is not an expat… Kind of sad that he thinks claiming to live in another country gives weight to his argument!
