If we are keeping anywhere near our schedule, Better Half and I should be on the road south to Atlanta at the moment to visit family. Sadly, I will not be making it to Dragon*Con this year, but some folks you might know will be, so it is probably worth your while to head that way if you can. Then we will be back just in time to hopefully visit with Dennis on Monday as he gets settled into his new home in Free America, and then I am in and out all of next week on business trips in Virginia.
Speaking of, are there any readers along the Richmond-to-Waldorf stretch of the US Route 301 corridor? Something tells me I will be getting bored in the evenings…
The upshot of all of this is that you will probably have to make do with whatever posts I have had the chance to schedule for the coming week, of which there are not terribly many. I am sure you will survive. Somehow.
This also means I will unfortunately not be attending this year’s Gun Blogger Rendezvous, but if you can, you totally should. I will make it back out there again at some point in the future…
See you on the flip side.

I vote for a gun-blogger meet-up at Dragon*Con next year!
Also, I think I’m going to have to miss the Gun Blogger Rendezvous as well. I really wanted to go, since I’ll never be closer, but it’s just not worth the eight hour one-way drive given that I’d have to leave early Friday and come back late Saturday due to other commitments.
I try to stay away from the Richmond area. While I’m sure you could find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy, I won’t bother trying.
There’s a halfway decent Barbecue place in La Plata, MD. Yes, I know, but there is good Q north of the Potomac (but still technically south of the Mason Dixon).
It’s called “Johnny Boy’s Ribs”, and I do recommend the ribs over the pork. The sides are nothing to write home about. Personally. I like really smokey Q with just a touch of vinegar-based sauce on a Kaiser roll. It’s not smokey enough there in La Plata for my tastes, but Johnny’s is a real log-burning authentic Q joint with the picnic tables you would expect to see on the movie set of Primary Colors. 7540 Crain Hwy, you should drive right by it. http://tinyurl.com/3d2cfx6
Liquor is also a bit cheaper in Maryland, at least compared to VA. My personal fave good-but-cheap booze is Pikesville Rye. It’s made in Kentucky, but only sold in Maryland. about $12/750ml, but it tastes like it should have a much higher price tag. There are a ton of discount liquor stores before the Nice Bridge in MD
@ Heather: I would be down for that… Given that Correia, Williamson, and Volk were all at the Con, something tells me we could have quite the little shindig.
And GBR is definitely awesome, but it is also definitely an all-weekend affair. Staying for the whole thing, to get the entire experience, is pretty much mandatory.
@ Jake: Sounds about like what I remember, but it still pales in comparison to the North-of-Waldorf stretch of Maryland…
@ Standard Mischief: Heh, funny you should mention them… My parents and I lived in La Plata for the seven years before and during my stint in high school, and we hit up Johnny Boy’s about every month or so. It was definitely on my “stop at” list.
And MD’s drive-through liquor stores still throw me for a loop…
