this is my wand. there are many like it, but this one is mine.

I will admit – my desires to turn my Mosin-Nagant into something that looks like a prop out of Star Wars is a little out there (and the kit is probably being built right now, after only a few months of waiting… of course I am not impatient!); however, no matter what I do to my Ruskie boomstick, it will never be as awesome as this.

Go on. Click through. Sure, it has been "sporterized", but in the most tasteful way imaginable… and I would argue that the decoration makes it all worthwhile.

So, what do you think…. How would Voldemort take a supersonic, 181 grain, 7.92mm round to the forehead?

  • I acutally saw that exact scope mod at the club last night. If its the same mod, that’s TECHNICALLY not a “Sporterization” because it uses the screw mounts that hold on the rear sight ladder, so that gun can be returned to full military configuration in a few hours work, just like your goofy bullpup mod.

As a collector I have no problem with mods that are easily reversed, as you have all the shootability you may desire, but still retain all the collector’s value of the firearm.

What I don’t like is when people adulterate the original finish, or cut the wood or metal.

Then again there’s a reason why you can get a near-mint condition M91/30 for under $100, but can’t get your hands one even a well used M1903 Springfield, or an M1 Garand for under 5X that amount. So many of them have been chopped so their only value is that of a working gun, ones with any collector’s value go way up in price.

    7.92mm would be 8mm Mauser I believe.

  • @ Weer’d Beard: Yeah, I do not mind any modification to older firearms that can be undone in the future… Hacking and slashing, however, is just sad – there are enough other firearms still being manufactured for you to back-yard-gunsmith on that you do not need to go mutilating an old-timer.

But, then again, their gun, their money, their call.

@ Stan: Check your specs. Oddly enough, the bullet fired from a 7.62x54R round of ammunition is not 7.62mm in diameter.

  • I am reminded of “Trouble at Hogwarts,” by Potter Puppet Pals.

  • … OMG.

Something tells me that enough of a large enough caliber would make even the Horcruxes somewhat… useless :) .

  • As the owner of the rifle in question (a 1943 Izhevsk), I am happy to reassure people that all of the changes I have made are reversible and that I have kept all of the original materials.

  • Might be a cousin of mine then :) .

As I said, your gun, and your call what to do with it, but it always makes me cringe a little inside when people do permanent things to items that are no longer being made. Granted, we are not likely to run out of M-Ns any time soon, but still…

  • I understand completely. I’m like that with things that ARE still being made. I have tremendous respect for history.

Also, that was the third time I attempted to leave a comment, and I’m glad to see it stuck. The first two times I was using Chrome and it never seemed to “stick”. The third time I used Firefox.

  • Sorry ’bout that… the site was having some server-side issues while you were trying to leave your comment (or at least in roughly the same window), but I will poke at it with Chrome a little and see what is up.
