One of the more-common memes floating through the pro-rights weblogs is "why are liberals so violent?" (or the more-general "why are anti-rights advocates so violent?"); indeed, it seems as though every time we turn around, we get to read about yet another "left-wing nut" expressing, or, worse, acting upon, personal desires to inflict serious bodily harm, if not death, on other human beings. Hell, Bob S. was threatened with death-by-beating for daring to disagree with a dyed-in-the-wool liberal’s wife, and that is only the most-easily found example of this kind of reprehensible behavior – sadly, "liberals being violent" could easily be a shock-jock series on some trashy cable channel.
So, with all that said, this quote from UBU52, a known liberal and anti-rights cultist, should come as no surprise to anyone:
Be scared. Be very, very scared. When all the Liberals get guns, it will be a much more violent world. At that point, Conservatives will start screaming for gun control.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Wow. Just… wow.
1. Liberals getting guns would require them to first overcome their petty authoritarianism, inherent hoplophobia, and apparently all-consuming drives to ban said firearms from existence.
2. According to those self-same liberals, they are supposedly the more-mature, more-reasonable, more-controlled, more-rational side of the political spectrum, and thus their owning firearms should have no impact on the nation’s crime rates whatsoever. Unless, of course, they are none of those things… and we know they are not. But is UBU admitting that liberals are more violent than conservatives (as they would have to be to increase the violence rate)?
3. As Joe points out, history does have examples of more-conservative groups looking to control firearms when more-liberal groups might be procuring them, and while I am sure some RINOs would be willing to jump right on that particular bandwagon, that belief being expressed by UBU is nothing more than rampant projection, compounded with a stereotyping of "conservatives" – I, for one, would treat liberals misbehaving with firearms as I would treat any person misbehaving with firearms: arrest, try, and appropriately punish the person, and go on with everyone’s lives.
4. Even if more liberals were to get more firearms, and even if they were to start being violent with them, I hate to break the cold, hard facts to UBU – we conservatives/libertarians have had firearms for longer, have more practice, and are generally more willing to use them. The outcome would be… predictable.
So this is what constitutes a reasonable, contributory, and useful comment in liberal-land – veiled threats and specious insinuations. I would say I was surprised, but that would be a lie.
