But here we are.
To my fellow webloggers, forum residents, tweeters, and other internet denizens: if you repost an image or picture that was originally found on / generated by another website, it is generally considered poor form to do so without linking back to the original post/page on that other website – citing your sources, as it were.
More specifically, the terms of use for this webpage clearly indicate that:
All quotations, including both text and graphics, from wallsofthecity.net will include credit to wallsofthecity.net or to Linoge (or other applicable author) and, wherever practicable, a hyperlink of the form http://wallsofthecity.net.com … to the site.
Most folks honestly do not mind if you use their images, so long as you give them proper attribution – this should be automatic for all reposts from all weblogs, and should be nothing more than a matter of common courtesy, but it was brought to my attention that some folks seem to lack that particular character trait.

Hey Linoge –
When I commented on that graph yesterday, I didn’t remember seeing your name on it. He referenced the Brady Campaign, so I thought it was something the anti-gun crowd made to show the drop in “gun deaths” after the Brady laws.
Sorry for being such a dick in the way I critiqued it. I just completely misinterpreted it.
@ MAgunowner:
That’s a big reason why I think Robert Farago is more of a harm to the Pro-2A community than a help. Not only does he steal shit without a second thought, but he’ll always chose to present things in the most inflammatory manner because there lies site hits, reality be damnned.
Also he posted with poor attribution a single imagine, and willingly walked away from all the research and data sets that Linoge put into that fantastic graph.
He’s reckless and a pig.

@ MAgunowner: I probably should have touched on this when I wrote this post, but I was a bit single-minded at the time.
In no way do I blame you or anyone else for the way you reacted to the image – Robert indirectly (but, I believe, intentionally) portrayed it as being generated by the Brady Bunch, and unless you checked the actual address of the single, solitary link he put up, or noticed the copyright along the image’s left side, you would never have known it came from me. He and I are having an email conversation regarding his lacking weblogging techniques, but, as you can see from his adding a textual mention to my site without linking it, he does not seem to be catching on to the concepts of “attribution” or “citation”.
That said, you and the other commenters do bring up some valid concerns regarding the design of the graphic, and I will look into addressing them next time I generate it (which, hopefully, will be soon, if the CDC ever releases the new year’s numbers) – I can make the text to go with those vertical lines the same color as the lines to bind them together more obviously, and I will probably change the colors of the normalized lines (currently purple and black) to make them more obvious, while changing the color of the “gun death” line to take the focus of attention off it.
As for the density of the information being portrayed in the graphic, I apologize for it, but, as I said, there was just no other way to show all the information I wanted in the same area at the same time. I was quite serious with my offer that if you can do better, please do so – I would be amongst the first to repost it here, and point people towards your work. I would love some kind of dynamic, flash-based method for being able to turn on and off certain lines or datasets, but damned if I know how to do that.
I love the hell out of crunching numbers, but getting them in an easy-to-swallow format is not my strong suit
