I got home today and scampered downstairs to the basement to pick up my camera and go see how our baby cardinal was doing. Incidentally, he had fledged and apparently moved on, but I did not know that at the time, and I only thought briefly about the funny looking leaf on the floor of the basement as I headed into my office. Having grabbed my camera and started to head upstairs, I … ZOMGTHELEAFISRUNNINGACROSSTHEFLOOR!!!
Note to readers – this is not a leaf:
Kinda cute, once I got him outside though:

Nice skink!
So proud of him… did not even lose his tail!
Note to readers – this is not a leaf
More importantly: this is not a duck!
Since they eat insects, they’re welcome in my house any time.
You guys cannot live in Florida. The first time you see a roach flying, you’ll be reaching for the truck gun and remodeling the neighborhood.
He looks like a juvenile male five-lined skink, just at the age where he’s trading his blue tail for a red head.
Good think you found him and not the baby Maligator.
@ AuricTech: Truth. He did not have shoulder holsters!
@ Eseell: Eating bugs I do not mind. Scampering around underfoot when I am barefoot? Less acceptable. He can keep our outside mosquito population under control – it needs it.
@ Miguel: Been there. Done that. The remains of the one roach I encountered are probably still embedded in the wall of my old apartment…
@ hecate: Well, I walked away with all my toes, so he was at least well-trained
