pro-rights gun violence victims

The anti-rights cultists of America frequently like to pretend that they have the market cornered on "gun violence" victims*, and often parade these individuals around in front of the media as a way to generate empathetic, emotional support for their blatantly bigoted positions.

Unfortunately for them, that act is nothing more than a farce.

I am sure my regular readers will remember John Green, the man who lost his daughter in the Tucson shooting, and said the following:

Well, there’s always been something special about Christina and, you know, the way she came into the world, on 9/11 and the way she left the world yesterday is obviously one that everybody else will remember. We’re going to remember her for the nine years that we had her, and she was a beautiful, vibrant, young girl. It shouldn’t happen in this country or anywhere else. but, you know, it’s a free society, we’re going to be subject to people like this, so I prefer this to the alternative.

Well, today, Patrick would like to introduce you to George Morris:

georgemorrisGeorge, a former Marine and retired airline pilot, was present in Tucson on that horrible day when one man decided that U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords must die. When the shooting started, heroically, he rushed to shield his wife 0f 50 years, Dot.

Unfortunately, she was already gone and he had lost his high school sweetheart. He was also shot. Twice. One bullet went through his back, puncturing one lung and breaking a rib. Another bullet went into his leg.

Like a number of Tucson protestors, George was at the NRA Annual Meeting, but he was not standing in the streets. He was inside, giving a speech.

“I will be your spokesman, as my wife would wish, to be your spokesman, to tell everyone that it wasn’t a gun that killed my wife. I will be your spokesperson in protecting the Second Amendment going forward.”

So what was the anti-rights cultists’ reaction to this apparent defection from their party line? Well, if you pay attention to the CSGV (and, really, who the hell does that any more?), then George Morris is not a "gun violence" victim. Why? Well, no particular reason is given, but Ladd Everitt, speaking through the CSGV’s Twitter feed, has been repeatedly accusing the NRA management of being unwilling to "talk" to "gun violence" victims. Uh, Laddie, one of those "gun violence" victims actually gave a speech to the NRA Board – you just ain’t too bright, are ya?

Unfortunately, despite attempting to shield his wife of 54 years from the Tucson shooter, and despite being shot in his right leg and chest/lung, and despite losing his wife to that deranged murderer, Mr. Morris is not a "real" "gun violence" victim in the eyes of the anti-rights nuts, simply because he does not support their rights-abridging, reality-denying, petty-authoritarian lunacy. I am once again reminded of black people not supporting "traditionally" black politics like "affirmative action", and then being despicably decried as "not really black" or "not black enough" by those petty idiots who are more concerned with their own narrow-minded causes than the reality of the situation.

I am unquestionably sorry for Mr. Morris’ and Mr. Green’s losses, and the injuries sustained by the former, but I am likewise unquestionably thankful that they are able to look past their grief, and realize that an inanimate object bears not responsibility for the tragedies inflicted upon them, and that blaming/persecuting/punishing law-abiding citizens for the actions of deranged criminals simply does not make sense. I look forward to working side-by-side with Mr. Morris in the future as we secure our rights from those who would exploit his loss to their gain.

* – I am abiding by the anti-rights cultists’ definition of "victim", as exemplified by Joan Peterson. She was not shot, she was not shot at, she was not so much as threatened by her murderous brother-in-law, but since her sister was killed by that man (a man with a history of crime and mental instability, I would remind everyone), she counts as a "victim"… at least in the minds of people looking to turn everyone into a victim.
