As a reminder to my readers, the word “bigot” generally means, “a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs”. This behavior is generally identified by a person’s refusal to accept or even acknowledge any information, facts, or figures that contradict or disprove their personal opinions; an overwhelming desire to dominate a conversation through the use of carefully-crafted insults, insinuations, and personal attacks; and a complete and utter inability to “live and let live”, respect other people’s rights and/or freedoms, or even accept that other people have differing opinions.
So how bigoted is the organization that “seeks to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy”?
linoge_wotc: @CSGV Your erroneous sense of scale is mindblowing. Given the number of gun owners in the country, using "gun deaths" to stereotype them all is hilariously irrational, illogical, and just plain stupid. http://tinyurl.com/6gecahv
Please note: unlike almost every other post in this category, I changed nothing in the above blockquote. No words have been substituted, altered, adjusted, or changed – I had to do nothing to properly showcase Ladd Everitt’s bigotry.
Which is kind of saying something.
A few observations… First, Ladd feels comfortable dictating the opinion of the “broader African American opinion” in Chicago. On what basis? Through what means? Based on what information? Note that, once again, no citations are provided.
Second, note how Everitt wants people who carry firearms to “stay away from” him. Remind you of anything?
Third, remember the below graphic:
It is unquestionably unfortunate that so many criminals use firearms to unlawfully murder other individuals, but attempting to use that massively small fraction of firearm-owners to stereotype, attack, and demean the millions upon millions upon millions of law-abiding firearm owners is simply dumb, there is no way around it.
Fourth, despite Ladd’s attempt at irrationally conflating the two, all firearm-owners are not criminals, and, typically speaking, the kind of person who would use a firearm to murder another individual is the kind of person who already has a sufficient criminal record to bar him from legal ownership. As such, predictably enough, Everitt is afraid of the wrong kind of people – it is not the permit holders he has to worry about (in fact, they are demonstrably more law-abiding than “average” Americans), but rather the criminals he would use to libel everyone else.
Fifth and finally, note how Ladd attempts to imply that I, and my fellow law-abiding firearm owners, are merely moments away from snapping and killing someone due to the “rhetoric” we apparently employ. Of course, once again, the CSGV’s anointed representative is light on citations and substantiations for his accusation, but that has never stopped him before… In truth, murder is rarely the first crime, and since I currently possess a handgun carry permit through two different states, it is fair to say that I have absolutely no criminal record, nor have I ever physically threatened anyone in person or through this weblog. In fact, I generally see violence as a measure of last resort, and have absolutely no desires, intentions, or “dreams” of killing another person unless there is no other option available to me.
Unfortunately, none of that matters to Everitt – I disagreed with him, and that makes me a potential “gun death” perpetrator. Well, as far as I care to assume, you have a penis, right, Ladd? I guess that makes you a “potential rapist”. And every woman is a “potential hooker”. And…
Despite there being absolutely no evidence, whatsoever, that you, as a law-abiding citizen who happens to carry a firearm for self-defense, would commit a crime, Ladd Everitt of the Coalition to Stop Gun
Violence Ownership would rather cross the street should he ever encounter you, rather than just walk on by and live and let live. That is, of course, his choice.
But it is the choice of a bigot.
