Remember how I said I have set a goal of owning a .22 suppressor by the end of 2011?
Remember when I said I might figure up the cost the government adds to the price of said suppressor? Remember when I said I might not do that because it would be depressing?
Exhibit A: A plastic suppressor for $30
Exhibit B: An aluminium suppressor for $49
Exhibit C: A .30 cal suppressor for A DOLLAR.
More Suppressors for sale in New Zealand. No paperwork required and if you live there they’ll mail them to you (note to morons: You might get a private seller to try to send you one here in the states, but Customs and the ATF would knock on your door instead of UPS). Yes, they have restrictions on firearms that are much stricter than here but
The cheapest suppressor I’ve been able to find in America was $149, plus the $200 transfer tax and another $30 in sales/excise taxes. Oh and the 6+ month wait for background checks, local law enforcement sign off, etc.
I wonder: Is New Zealand known for it’s high rate of suppressor-related crime? A haven for assassins? No?
Then what is the point of the restrictions here on this type of safety equipment?
ETA: By the way, those prices are in New Zealand dollars, which currently equate to about $22 for the $30 suppressor and $33 for the $49 suppressor

[...] Comparing US prices to New Zealand prices. Yes, sort of depressing. But you have to consider that, in NZ, you need a license to own guns and you can’t carry them. [...]
The best part?
The second one is “Made in China”
lol
Here suppressor companies are all spec ops black and tacticool. In NZ suppressor companies are more like your local muffler shop.
You know what’s depressing? Living in NY and knowing I’ll never be able to own a suppressor.
Move.
