quote of the day

This time around, ExurbanKevin wins the award with this comment at SayUncle’s:

I think we finally have definite proof of quantum mechanics. We “know” Obama’s birth certificate exists, but we can’t prove its location (or speed).

I giggled.

At this point, while I have every reason to be suspicious as to why Our Glorious President is still withholding information concerning his citizenship, it really boils down to a relatively simple question of, “So what?” What if definitive information indicating that the Obamessiah was not an American citizen was found? What would happen? The short answer is, “not a damned thing”.

He might be impeached, but given how spineless the average Republican is, I would not count on it. And even if he was, what of all of the laws he signed in the past few years? Every single last one of them would be invalid, but do you really think our government would go back and CTRL+Z each and every one of them? Not so much.

Our Glorious President’s citizenship stopped mattering the moment he was sworn in… but that does not mean it cannot still be used for a laugh or two.

  • Have you heard about the HillBuzz theory that Our Nero Zero is refusing to disclose his birth certificate is that (as per Hawaiian law after an adoption), it lists his name as “Barry Soetoro,” and he never legally changed his name back to BHO?

(P.S.: Found your blog from Joe Huffman’s site.)

  • I’m in the other camp. I think all hell would break loose. If it were to happen, and be fully investigated, it would be the “reset” this country needs.

Awww, who am I foolin? It would all get swept under one big ass rug.

  • Even if it did matter, all it would do is make Joe Biden the President and move Hillary up one spot in line. Do you really think that would be an improvement?

  • I tend to think it’s more of a something he considers would be highly embarrassing; normally the amount of time & money spent hiding it would work against that, but considering his ego…

I’m with Rustmeister: if there’s something actually bad or disqualifying there, we should know. And if it throws the turbo switch on things, so be it.

Phil Valentine’s idea is that, as a birth to a single mother is usually by the mother’s race, he’d be listed as “Caucasian.”

  • Even if it did matter, all it would do is make Joe Biden the President and move Hillary up one spot in line.

ExUrban Kevin’s next comment addresses that:

Also, according to the former Treasurer of Arizona, if Obama is disqualified from the office, the entire ticket is disqualified. We won’t end up with President “Slow” Joe Biden if the birthers are correct, we’ll have (drumroll, please)…

    President John Boehner.

I don’t know that it would follow the “succession” scenario like that or not – I would think it equally possible that if the winning ticket is found to have not been valid, the second place ticket would be the winner by default, and we’d end up with Pres. McCain and VP Palin, with the next election to proceed as scheduled. I don’t think the situation where a sitting president is found to have been ineligible for the office is even addressed in the law.

At this point, it would open a gigantic mess if it turns out he wasn’t eligible to be President in the first place.

  • @ AuricTech: Thanks for stopping by! I had heard that particular theory, but we are never going to know for certain until the appropriate documentation is released… and you and I both know what the odds of that are :) .

@ Rustmeister: You are significantly more optimistic about the American populace than I am, unfortunately…

@ divemedic: Like Jake says, are we sure? I have not done any deep digging, but I cannot say as though there is anything in the Constitution or our body of law that would cover this kind of situation.

@ Firehand: Must be nice to have that kind of money to throw away on something as stupid as this, eh?

And, I completely agree that we should know… I just think it would not matter the slightest bit if we were to find out.

@ Tennessee Budd: Well, he sure as hell ain’t black, so Lord knows.

@ Jake: It would likely turn into a matter for the courts, who would pretty much have to arbitrarily decide for themselves what the conclusion would be… Not sure our Founding Fathers would have banked on us breaking the rules this badly (assuming the certificate does not proove citizenship).

This is all a Rethuglican lie, citizen.

  • Can someone explain to me why being born outside the US would make him not a citizen from birth? Wikipedia says his mother was born in Kansas; which would make him a citizen by patrimony (technically matrimony, but that’s a word with a very different meaning in common use).

Myself, I switch between “something embarrassing on the form” and “tarbaby for the rightwing”.

Finally, I used a short-form birth cert (from a different state) to get a passport only a few years ago – so clearly it’s acceptable to the US Dept of State for the purposes of ID.
