Well that’s interesting

From the AP:
New House Speaker Shakes Up Committee System

Basically, Speaker Harwell is eliminating most of the subcommittees. She says this will make the process more efficient, but I don’t see how.

Previously, the subs acted as a filter. Lets take Judiciary (since that’s the one the gun bills …

graphics matter, external sources

As regular readers of this weblog are probably more than aware, I am quite fond of using relatively simple graphics to debunk long-standing myths adhered to by anti-rights nuts, including “more guns = more crime” and “more guns = more deaths“. However, no matter how simple …

reality just keeps getting in the way

A helpful note to those fear-driven, paranoid, authoritarian hoplophobes who are hoping to heartlessly exploit the recent tragedy in Tucson as a basis for another round of pointless legislation limiting the size of magazines that can be manufactured:

Size does not matter.

To be perfectly fair, Joe does have …

moron of the day

Really, I cannot bring myself to even try to understand the depths of idiocy that Mike Proly would have to possess to write something this unquestionably asinine:

Since you don’t need a concealed carry permit in Arizona to carry a concealed weapon if you are over 21, the shooter

piecemeal appreciation

Lost in the noise of everything else going on at the moment, it would appear as though Peter Yates, director of Bullitt, died on the 10th. To be perfectly honest, I did not really enjoy the movie (apart from the iconic 11 minutes), but he helped inspire …

First TN Gun Bill of 2011

It’s from my favorite crazy lawmaker, G. A. Hardaway, D-Memphis.

Hardaway is the one that brought us the “restaurants that aren’t posted must provide armed security to protect unarmed patrons from carry permit holders” amendment to the restaurant carry bill last year. He’s probably the most anti-gun legislator we …

quote of the year

And, yes, I think I can safely say that, even less than two weeks into that year.

I will not blame you if you do not have the time to watch this video, or cannot bring yourself to do so – I do not have a child, so I cannot …

know your glass

A DSLR camera is a good start to taking awesome pictures, but that is just the first step – the item that has significantly more control over the quality of your photography is the glass in front of that sensor, and if there is one market that is about as …

one has to start somewhere

Speaking as someone who semi-regularly openly carries a sidearm (the weather has put something of a dampener on that for the time being), this news does give me something of a warm fuzzy:

Back in October, I reported on the case of Krysta Sutterfield who was arrested at gun

Shooter was a prohibited person

Just pointing out something that people like japete, Helmke, etc aren’t doing.

Yeah, he passed the BRADY background check, but he lied on his 4473.

See that part, 11(e), where it asks if you smoke pot? You can’t buy a gun if you answer that one in the affirmative.…

where were the cell phones?

Ok, I was mistaken – I have one last thing to say about the Tucson shooting today.

We are rapidly becoming a fully-connected society, in that one will find smart phones, cameras, and video recorders almost everywhere, at almost any time; and, predictably enough, when major events transpire, it is …

laughter is the best medicine

I have said pretty much everything I care to about Representative Gabrielle Giffords’ shooter, and other post ideas just are not coming to me at the moment (though I am currently reading through something that will merit its own comprehensive post tomorrow – impressive stuff), so I am just going …

copping out by linking out

What with me just sitting around the house, home on a snow day, you would think that I would have the posts just rolling off my fingertips.

Instead, the best I have to offer at the moment is updating my “major posts” listing on the left, adding a “review posts” …

Why the shooter’s politics matters

I follow Breitbart on twitter, not to see what he says but to see what the tolerant, accepting left has to say about him. I am rarely disappointed by the hate directed at him.

After the Giffords shooting, this exchange caught my eye:

This is why the shooter’s politics matters. …

proper planning and all that

Apparently I should have listened to that nagging little voice…

Over the weekend, the thought occured to me to purchase a sled, however, the snowmageddon-that-was-not rather disillusioned me regarding the accuracy of weather forecasts.

So here I sit, home from work, with three inches of virgin snow outside. *sigh* …

it is ok when they do it

Is anyone else perversely amused at how the decriers of “violent static”, “hateful rhetoric”, “hyper-vicious, borderline-vigilante climate”, and “hostile atmosphere” are all doing so as a prelude to forcibly silencing their opposition?

There is scant little more hateful, hostile, vicious, or even violent (after all, such a muzzling must be …

representative gabrielle giffords’ alleged shooter

Really, it should not surprise me when the majority of conservative/libertarian/small-government/Tea-Party/etc. weblogs out there are busy expressing their condolences, sympathy, and sorrow over the recent mass shooting in Tuscon, while the majority of liberal/authoritarian/big-government/etc. weblogs out there are busy assigning blame, making up reasons (that conveniently demonize the aforementioned conservatives), …

do not have a whole lot of specifics at the moment

But Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords and at least 11 other people were shot in a grocery store in Tuscon, with multiple possible fatalities, including (possibly) the Representative herself, according to some sources.

My condolences and prayers to the victims and their families and friends – the only good news …
