According to the (thankfully) inimitable Robb, japete/Joan Peterson recently wrote this:
It just isn’t a school year without a few shootings. So far 2011 has not disappointed in that regard.
Consider the phrase “has not disappointed” – the inclusion of the negative indicates that the subject of the sentence (in this case, the year “2011″) has done, to Joan (the unspoken object of the sentence), the opposite of “disappoint”. And what is the opposite, or antonym, of “disappoint”? I quote, “delight, excite, make happy, please, satisfy”.
As the weblogger “japete”, Joan Peterson is delighted by school shootings.
As a Brady Campaign board member, Joan Peterson is excited by school shootings.
As a Million Mom March Chapter President, Joan Peterson is made happy by school shootings.
As a “gun control” advocate, Joan Peterson is pleased by school shootings.
As a hoplophobe, Joan Peterson is satisfied by school shootings.
Good Lord. I really do not need to say anything else, do I?
(This was going to be a comment, but I figured it warranted a post of its own… So go over to Robb’s and leave a comment to make up for the one I did not.)
