“All the protein, vitamins and carbs of your grandma’s best turkey dinner, plus fifteen percent alcohol.”
Fellow Browncoats will be able to place that quote and identify its originator, but for the uninitiated out there, Jayne Cobb was describing a concoction known as “Mudder’s Milk”, for which Clay McClure of The Signal podcast developed a recipe a while back:
Mudder’s Milk
1 litre (1 quart) soy milk, plain
360ml (12 oz) stout such as Guinness, or other dark, full bodied beer
64g (1/2 cup) wheat germ
112g (1/2 cup) brewers yeast
180ml (6 oz) grain alcohol
or vodka to tasteMix the soy milk, stout beer, wheat germ and brewers yeast in a 2 litre/quart pitcher, stirring well. Chill before serving. Now, either add the grain alcohol to the whole batch to achieve the 15% alcohol that Jayne mentions or mix the “milk” with vodka to taste. Serve in rustic pottery mugs and get ready to sing “The Hero of Canton”!
Unfortunately, I fear as though my reaction to tasting the resulting liquid would be something along the lines of Wash’ “Zhe shi shenme lan dongxi!?”

Sounds like something you’d use to remove stumps, or strip paint and varnish from old furniture.
It would probably taste a lot better if you left out the soy milk, the wheat germ, and the brewer’s yeast.
Why am I disappointed this concoction doesn’t contain frappéd turkey?
I’d drink it!
Jaaaaaaaaaayne. The man they call Jaaaayne. Well he, robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor. Stood up to the man, and he gave him what for. Our love for him now, aint hard to explain: the Hero of Canton, the man they call Jaaaayne.
@ BobG: In that case, it sounds just about perfect for Jayne. I am almost curious enough to mix up a small batch. Almost.
@ phlegmfatale: Hey, those birds is expensive on the Outer Rim!
@ JP: Yeah, but he gets to drink the best whiskey in the house!
Okay, then mebbe a cube of turkey boullion? Tofurkey, maybe?
Y’know he was just comparing it to Grandma’s turkey dinner, right?
I am sure you could modify the recipe as you liked, though… Speaking of, though, Better Half recommends the introduction of Jones’ Turkey Soda…
