As I write, and post, this entry, I am about 32,000 feet over Kansas City, Missouri, hurtling along at around 500 miles per hour in a very large metal tube packed with people. The device I am using to do the writing was all but unimaginable within my grandparents’ lifetimes (in fact, just one of these would have turned the tide of any of the wars they witnessed or were involved in), and when I push “publish”, countless other absurdly powerful machines will be involved in allowing this post to be seen by possibly millions.
As the title says, this is not Star Trek, but you would not have to go very far back in time for someone to regard the above paragraph much the same way we see those television series.
So, where is my tribble?

Reading this on my phone, and posted over the cellular network while my wife is running some errands. Thw future is now, my friend!
Which makes you wonder: What will our grandchildren take for granted that we haven’t even seen yet?
I still want a flying car! Until then it’s not the future!
“So, where is my tribble?”
We don’t need tribbles to multiply outrageously, cause ridiculous problems, and generally screw up everything; we have federal bureaucrats to take care of that.
If this is the future, where the hell is my Jetson’s hovercar? I WANT MY HOVERCAR!!!
I dunno, Bob, I wouldn’t mind seeding the berm at my shooting club with tribbles. That could be AWESOME! Especially if they’re cool colors on the inside!
[...] Linoge remarks on the miracles of modern technology, and makes a Star Trek reference demanding a tribble. BobG in the Comments has the same reaction I [...]
@Weer’d Beard – It is kind of funny, though, how “the future” has exceeded what we could have forseen in places, and fallen short in others… I wonder how we are going to mis-call our childrens’ futures.
@cybrus – Given things like the Internet, I would imagine that we are not even capable of guessing at the moment…
@bluesun – Here.
@BobG – Yes, but aside from Weer’d's idea, then we could throw the Tribbles at the bureaucrats – birds of a feather and all that.
@Jim – Had those for a while, now
