Remember, guns are “bad news” for women, and I am quite certain this female would be more than willing to throw her support entirely behind our ex-resident anti-rights nut, MikeB302000:
A woman fatally shot her ex-husband after the man stabbed her several times at a Montrose [Texas] apartment complex Sunday.
[...]
The name of the 32-year-old man, who died at the scene, has not been released.
His ex-wife, whose name has not been released, had several stab wounds and was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
According to police, the woman grabbed her gun and shot her ex-husband after he stabbed her. No other information was immediately available.
… Oh…. wait… That lady might actually disagree with Sparky over that little detail. To be certain, we do not know a whole lot about this shooting, even three weeks later (I could find no other mention of it in its source paper – if anyone else has any recent information, I would surely appreciate it), but if you take the short blurb at face value, you get a story of an ex-husband stabbing his ex-wife, and her defending herself.
And guns are “bad news” for women? I would never speak for Sparky (mostly because I would not want to subject myself to the mental anguish of trying to “think” like he does), but it is probably more than safe to say that the woman’s firearm saved her life in this case.
Statistically speaking, husbands are typically larger and stronger than their wives, at least on average; there are, of course, exceptions, but that is a fairly decent rule of thumb. In this case, in addition to probably being heavier and stronger than his ex-wife, the attacker was also armed with a knife that he used to inflict serious enough wounds on his victim that she had to be taken to a hospital. It is fair to say that she was fighting back with her body (hands, teeth, feet, etc.), and that she was losing… and depending on the motivations and desires of the ex-husband, it is probably also fair to say that, had the situation continued, she would have ended up maimed, raped, dead, or some combination of those or other outcomes.
However, thankfully, she had a firearm – a tool often referred to as “the great equalizer” – and thus a smaller, weaker victim was able to successfully and effectively defend herself from a larger, stronger, armed aggressor. And this is “bad news”?
Well, maybe this lady in Missouri will agree with poor Sparky:
The Southeast Missourian reports that 51-year-old Craig Kizer faces a variety of charges, including attempted rape, armed criminal action and burglary. He has no known address and did not have an attorney.
Police say Kizer had been working on the family’s home as part of a renovation project, but was not staying there. The teen was in bed around 5:30 a.m. Sunday when Kizer came into her room with a knife and climbed on top of her.
When he set the knife down on the bed, the teen grabbed it and screamed.
The girl’s mother came into the room with a gun, pointed it at the suspect and ordered him out of the house. Police later arrested him.
Hm. Guess not. Here we have a teenager, sleeping in bed, when she was physically assaulted by an older, again probably-larger and probably-stronger man, who clearly had the intentions of raping her. He made a tactical error when he set the knife down, but he made an even worse mistake when he attempted to violate a member of an armed family.
So the mother defending her daughter from probable rape and possible murder is “bad news” if she happened to do so with a firearm? What other alternatives might she have had? To be certain, the two females might have stood a chance at overpowering the attacker, especially since he relenquished his knife, but people would get hurt, and possibly killed, in the resulting confrontation, especially with the attacker literally holding the daughter captive. The introduction of a lawful firearm in a morally-acceptable self-defense situation completely changed the fabric of the engagement, though, and forced the attacker to make the hard choices, rather than the victims: leave now, or face imminent perforation. That is not only not “bad news”, it is also the consummation of a sacred duty all parents have regarding their children, in addition to simply being The Right Thing to Do.
Speaking personally, I am not sure I would have afforded the scumbag the opportunity to make a choice of his own, but I will not fault the mother for doing so. At least her daughter’s would-be rapist is now behind bars, where he rightfully should remain.
Well, that is two strikes against the “guns are ‘bad news’ for women” theory… surely there is someone who would help substantiate Sparky’s bigoted hoplophobia? How about someone in Hollywood – it is, after all, a solid bastion of “liberal” and “progressive” thought, right? Well, what does Jessica Biel have to say about women and firearms, just to pull a name out of a hat?
And she packs some serious heat. “I had this really sexy 9-millimeter Beretta, and I trained a lot with an M4 machine gun. Before, I felt very scared of guns. But you learn about them and then you feel capable, and it becomes an empowering experience.”
Well, that is the first time I have heard a Beretta referred to as “sexy”, but also look at the other words Jessica used – “capable” and “empowering”. Is empowering women “bad news”? Is teaching women that they are capable of looking after themselves, and defending themselves, “bad news”?
Yeah, I thought not.
Three strikes, and “bad news” is outta here. To be certain, firearms are sometimes used for illegal activities specifically targeting women. And, to be certain, firearms are not the solution to all possible confrontational scenarios. However, given we live in a world where larger, stronger individuals routinely attempt to force smaller, weaker individuals to do as the former desires, I would rather allow all humans, regardless of gender, the opportunity to equip themselves with modern equipment that allows for levelling the playing field, rather than forcing the smaller and weaker amongst us into the disgusting position of “involuntary victim”.

Yeah, but if a woman is empowered and capable, then she can’t be a victim or won’t subscribe to the victim-culture perpetuated by the Liberal Left and so can’t be controlled.
My Kel-Tec isn’t sexy, but it is absolutely adorable, BTW.
Give the girl a kewpie doll!
I have long since wondered if individuals like Sparky are simply closet mysoginists, looking to oppress, control, and dominate women in any way possible. Arguments like “guns are ‘bad news’ for women” just goes to substantiate that theory, especially given the ferocity with which he defends it.
And Kel-Tecs (generally) get dispensation for being small. A service Beretta (which is what I am assuming was used in the movie), though?
Anti-rights advocates are bad news for Women.
Most of them are married too, that’s a thought I rarely like to have.
Anti-rights nuts are actively and intentionally aiding and abetting criminals by disarming those criminals’ intended victims, and rendering those intended victims nothing more than defenseless cattle. The recent shooting in England only served to substantiate that theory, given that over the course of 3.5 hours, apparently no one attempted to bumrush the idiot doing the shooting, including the police who were simply tailing him. In fact, the witnesses to the incident talk about how they closed windows just to keep the noise of the shooter from coming in. Because glass will stop bullets.
You are completely right, though – the attitude these people take concerning their own families, wives, and children is downright disturbing. They would rather themselves be disarmed, their families be disarmed, their children be disarmed, than allow anyone to be able to effectively defend themselves. Not thinking about that kind of despicable filth masquerading as humans is, indeed, the best tactic to take.
I personally think it’s part of a whole. They want to make everyone into victims. That’s why ‘self-defense’ classes are often more like ‘lie back and think of England’ classes. Gun ownership goes against that agenda.
Well, some recent conversations with a certain James Kelly over at The Smallest Minority would certainly make that point a little more… substantial. He has no problems being a victim, and wants to force everyone else to join him in his self-induced vassal-like life, lest anyone get any ideas of becoming a citizen, rather than a subject.
If someone wants to live their own life like that, more power to them. But the second they start encouraging, much less forcing others to do so… well, they just replaced catfish for being bottom-dwelling mucksuckers.
He has no problems being a victim, and wants to force everyone else to join him in his self-induced vassal-like life, lest anyone get any ideas of becoming a citizen, rather than a subject.
And that’s exactly the attitude that led us to open up a can of whoopass on the Brits.
Linoge,
given that over the course of 3.5 hours, apparently no one attempted to bumrush the idiot doing the shooting, including the police who were simply tailing him.
I was thinking on those very same lines. Wonder if the reaction would be different say in Fort Worth, Texas?
In Texas, approximately 1% of the people have a CHL. Since he was driving around, I’ll use that number.
Fort Worth has a population of approximately 600,000 people and at 1% – that is still approximately 6,000 people with firearms readily accessible.
Let’s say that half the people aren’t carrying — still 3K.
How long do you think it take for taxi drivers to get the idea to pull over and get out of their cars– making it easier to ID the killer’s vehicle?
The British Police rushed every armed officer available to the area — total armed cops = 42!
Which area do you want to live in?
How long do you think it take for taxi drivers to get the idea to pull over and get out of their cars– making it easier to ID the killer’s vehicle?
@mike w. – Quite so. And it would seem as though some would-be victims on the British Isles need to be reminded of that simple fact from time to time, lest they attempt to import, or, worse yet, force, their narrow-minded intolerance and serfdom upon us.
@Bob S. – Quite so. 42 armed police officers who did not do a damned thing as they saw their employers and countrymen get gunned down around them, or thousands of American citizens who have a vested interest in keeping themselves and each other alive. This is not to say that there is any guarantee that an armed citizen would have been able to end the shooting spree any fater than it did, but I would strongly prefer that the option is available to those citizens, rather than forcing them, possibly against their will, to be nothing more than disarmed bystanders, if not defenseless victims.
As usual, “gun-free paradises” are utopias… until someone with violent intent has a gun. And they will always get a gun.
