Even in this day of instantaneous electronic communication across the globe, it is sometimes better to put pen to paper (if only for your signature), pay for the stamp, and send a real, honest-to-God letter.
Back on the first of this month, I sent an email to Earth Fare regarding the “gunbuster” stickers affixed to the doors of their Knoxville branch. I did not receive a response by the 23rd, when I printed out two slightly-edited copies of that email and sent them to the company’s CEO, and the manager of the store in question.
Today, five days later, I received this email from the “Assistant to the CEO”:
Good Morning [NAME],
Thank you for your e-mail and comments. We have also received your letter sent via postal mail.
We appreciate you taking the time to bring this new law to our attention, and to give us your feedback. We will take your comments into consideration while we review this new law and subsequently, if or how it may effect our policy.
Again, we appreciate your feedback and support.
Have a wonderful and healthy day.
A reader also emailed me to let me know that he received much the same response from exactly the same person, about eight days after sending his email. I wonder how much message traffic they are receiving about their stickers?
Given that Earth Fare is a North Carolina-based company, I do not fault them, in the slightest, for wanting to take the time to examine Tennessee’s new laws, and figure out how they will factor into to their business policies. However, given that they are based out of North Carolina – a state wherein all “no guns allowed” signs are intrinsically binding – I am not holding my breath that those stickers will be coming down any time soon.
*sigh* And they do have such good cheeses…
