so much for that

You will have to forgive me if I do not feel like posting much for the next few days:

Yes, everyone is ok from both cars involved. Better Half and I came away unscathed, and the guy in the Explorer had a slight cut to his head.

Yes, that is pretty much the extent of the damage to the Bullitt – the other car came to rest upside-down, and, to my untrained eye, it was totalled.

No word yet regarding the extent of the damage or how long it will take/cost to repair, but something tells me I am out of the car show I was scheduled for (it is on the 10th).

  • Awwwwwwwwwwww brutal. Nothing worse than the inaugural accident in a car. I still remember all 3 of mine, and how sick I was too my stomach. It’s worse when it’s not your fault either. Glad to hear everyone is alright at least.

Damn that sucks, but now you have a ‘reason’ to get an ’11 with the new 5.0 right?

  • I believe there is only one thing to say here:

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Seriously, glad you and the Mrs. are okay. Cars can be fixed. People, not always.

On a side note, this now makes three bloggers I know who have had wrecks recently…

  • That totally sucks! Was the other guy at fault? I’ve seen cars wayy more banged up than yours come out looking 100% from the body shop.

The important thing is all parties involved weren’t injured, cars are just things, and can be replaced.

  • Once again we are reminded of a saying a very sick friend taught me decades ago…..if it can be solved with money, it isn’t much of a problem.

Glad you and the lady are okay. It has been a lousy week but it does focus the mind on what is truly important. Our health and safety.

    Glad everyone’s OK.

Where you open carrying while driving and, if so, how did the interaction go with the responding LEO?

  • @Mike-ENDOtactical – I was really hoping to be able to retire this car to its own nice little garage 20 years from now and be able to say that all of the parts on it were still original. So much for those plans. But, as people have been telling me, things like this just have a way of happening.

@dagamore – Heh, not really… Hopefully, the car should be recoverable, given that this was the only damage to it. Hopefully.

@Jay G. – That was pretty much the reaction I had for about the first second at the accident… Then I was out and checking on the other guy, but there was the constant-stream-of-four-letter-words monologue running about the entire time… But, yeah, everyone is ok, despite shiny sides not being kept up.

@Weer’d Beard – You are absolutely right. This sucks, and it is going to be a lot of time and money to fix, but no one is in the hospital and no one is in the ground. All things considered, given the state of the other car (I will get around to putting up that picture once I have redacted faces), and given how fast we were moving, this is not bad.

@Bob S. – Heh, my mother’s favorite line, always said with the appropriate wryness: “It’s only money.”

And it is. I can make more money. I cannot replace lives. And this will eventually get fixed.

Thanks for the thoughts, and we are likewise glad you were not in your car when it decided to go up. Hell of a week, all things considered.

@Lynn H. – Thanks. Guess I have developed myself something of a reputation, eh? ;) I am actually going to be writing a comprehensive post on just that in the future, but the short answer is that I was openly carrying, and the police reaction is exactly what I would have expected. No problems. No difficulties. And no one freaked out.

  • I showed my wife the picture, and the first thing out of her mouth was “Is it bad that I feel like sending him a sympathy card? Isn’t that car like one of 12 in the world?”

    Glad you guys are okay.

  • On the upside it’s new and hasn’t faded – they can match the color perrfectly! Glad you are ok.

  • @wizardpc – Well, 20, but yeah. And let me just tell you how craptacular I feel about it being banged up while under my care… Still, it is better a sympathy card for that reason, than some worse ones.

@DirtCrashr – Heh, true. Supposedly the place it is going does extra work to airbrush everything back to being the same color again, so we are crossing our fingers. And the worst part is that I just waxed it the day before…
