reality proves their lies

Remember, fair readers – there is absolutely no reason for you to carry a firearm out in public, and there is absolutely nothing you can do if a criminal already has a gun out and pointed at you.

No reason, and nothing you can do, whatsoever:

Winter Garden Police said the victim was at the Wachovia ATM at 801 S. Dillard St. early Friday morning when he was approached by a man with a gun.

The victim, who has a concealed weapons permit, pulled out a gun of his own and opened fire at the robber, identified as Tommie R. Ward, while he was being shot at himself, according to police.

Ward, 18, was shot three times and fled the scene with two other people, police said.

Police said officers caught up with the Ward’s vehicle about a mile away where he crashed the car.

[...]

Police said at this time the man who shot the robbery suspect faces no charges.

It would seem as though an increasing number of criminals are not only betting the whole farm on the element of surprise (which may not always be successful, especially against trained, prepared, and/or equipped individuals), but also relying on firearms as talismans to scare their intended victims, rather than the tools they actually are. In the past two weeks, I have highlighted three separate stories (including this one) wherein the criminals in question had their firearms out and pointed at their intended victims, and those victims successfully drew their firearms, put rounds on target, and escaped unscathed… and in two of those cases, the criminals died (one at the scene, and one later in a hospital).

Are you always going to be successful when “drawing down” on someone already covering you with their firearm? Of course not. In fact, it is a very risky move, and one you should only take if you are comfortable with the possibility of your imminent perforation. However, as these three incidents clearly demonstrate, the fallacy peddled by anti-rights nuts that you will always fail is just that – a fallacy.

One has to wonder when they will stop treating beliefs as facts, or if the anti-rights nuts of America will just keep lying. If past history is any indication of future performance, you and I both know the answer.

It is indeed a risky move. But consider the number of crooks who shoot after they get the money. IMO, it’s a worthwhile risk.

  • It CAN be a risky move, but it also might not be. There are ways to make that gun stop covering you, or divert your attacker’s attention.

Caleb showed us all how that works when he gave a mugger a snoot full of starbucks while he fished out his .25. When walking to and from work I usually have my travel mug in hand (Caffeine addition, it can save your life!) I’m prepared to toss that fucker as PART of my draw stroke. Also remember if a criminal presents a gun and requests your wallet, if you fully comply they will then have a gun AND your wallet, and you will be no better off than when you started. But who’s to say you have to hand it to him nicely?

If I’m 100% flat-footed with no obvious means of distraction, if I toss my wallet into the dirt at his feet, or better yet, BEHIND him, where do you think his eyes are going to go?

What do you think will be in my hand when his eyes come back?

And of course remember, you don’t just stand there and shoot. Get off the line of attack and MOVE as you engage. Distance and movement are your friend!

And you should of course practice all of this stuff, as I suspect with a head full of adrenaline, you might not be able to work out the details on the spot.

  • @Beaumont – Precisely. The choice should be left to you, as an adult, responsible, human being, and the ability to follow through on that choice should likewise also be left to you. Anyone desiring otherwise is doing nothing more than aiding and abetting criminals, before the fact, by disarming those criminals’ intended targets and forcing them to be victims.

And to think they are proud of that position…

@Weer’d Beard – And that all falls under the “can” :) . Your opponent could be the Terminator, you could be trained out the ass, you both could be incompetent goofs… any number of distinct and separate possibilities could resolve themselves during the course of your interaction. And yet the anti-rights nuts consistently use “he has a gun pointed at you already” as an excuse for no one to carry firearms anywhere, because they would obviously be useless in situations like that.

Obviously, that is not the case.

We are thinking, plotting, conniving, sneaky little organisms, and I will be damned if I will let anyone tell me that I cannot do something, simply because they want to use it as leverage to turn me into a disarmed subject.

Not to mention they now have your money, credit cards, and personal information. Most importantly they now have your home address. If you keep your NRA card and CCW in that wallet (as I do) they now know there are guns to steal at your address.

Of course all of those problems assume they don’t just kill you during the robbery, after you turn over the wallet.

I seem to recall Mr. R. Stanton Scott repeatedly making that claim…… Of course using that logic police and military personnel shouldn’t carry either.

  • Unfortunately, there have been more than a few cases wherein the robber was dissatisfied with the haul from his victim’s wallet/purse, and proceeded to take out his annoyance on the victim in question, including, but not limited to, assault, battery, rape, and murder. “Giving them what they want” is all good and well, until they want more.

Seems kind of sad that the anti-rights nuts of our world never learned from the parable of the mouse and a cracker…

As for Stan, I have little regard for the words of a man who arbitrarily decides that no human being has the right to continue living – he and reality are not even on speaking terms.
