boru versus ruskova

In honor of our republic potentially disappearing before our very eyes, I ask you this question:

What kind of world do we live in when spuds like me can actually make significantly better vodka than honest-to-God Ruskies?

  • Depends on your definition of “Vodka” if you mean pure neutral grain spirits diluted with pure water, the distillation process and the water is key, and personally, while I prefer booze with flavor, Grey Goose made by the Frogs is really friggin tasty.

That being said if its just an unaged neutral grain spirit, I’d say the Limey’s have made the best stuff for centuries. They call it “Gin” ; ]

  • Hm. Good point. Both Ruskova and Boru claim to use “the finest grain” and pure water of some natural source, but when the Beverage Tasting Institute calls the former “A Flavorful and Smooth Vodka at a Great Price”, I really have to wonder what kind of drugs they are using. The latter, on the other hand, is ice-smooth, and its flavor is quite weak, while not unpleasant… which basically makes for absurdly dangerous mixed drinks.

Gin, on the other hand, is just plain whack. ;)

  • It’s an acquired taste. Junipers grew wild in the woods by my childhood home. I’d often find myself wading through them to get form point a to point b, and to look for wild blueberries. I dunno what it was but after a while the thorns stopped hurting me, but would still sting my more green friends. And that smell!

Gin at its heart reminds me of playing in the woods as a child.

  • Y’see, a drink reminding me of a tree just does not quite sit right with me… Though science has proven that smell is one of the best memory-sense tie-in, so I guess it figures, and given that you associate the trees with all the fun of youth, that does too… But still ;) .

In other news, Trader Joe’s makes surprisingly good sake. And cheap, too.
