If you ever wanted to know what the colors on your webpage are saying to your readers, here is a quick and easy guide, with some other helpful information here and here. Guess I should take notes, considering that I will be rebuilding this webpage’s theme from the ground up…
Likewise, Adobe Kuler is a simply awesome tool that can automatically generate color schemes and themes from… well… pretty much anything – your own imagination, pictures, whatever.
Then again, I have as much skill at “design” as a chimpanzee with a hammer does, so I am pretty much buggered no matter what whiz-bang tools or guides I find…

You know, there’s this gun blogger out there who I hear is very good at design and would barter for gear or plain old cash. I should see if I could find his contact information for you.
Not only do I suck at designing anything with colors, I’m also blue colorblind. Which I why I ended up buying a suit one time that was “OMG FABULOUS” purple.
Hence the reason my blog is all gray. (chuckle)
Err, that should read “blue/purple” colorblind– can’t distinguish between blues and purples.
I actually like your blog colour scheme – i find it easy to read – however, it might be worth chatting to that awesom designer mentioned in comment 1 if you feel you need a face-lift
I like this blog theme you have right now. I’m a fan of light text on a dark background.
Robb: If I ever get tired of my self-imposed monochrome hell, I might have to get that guy’s contact information from you.
Dixie: Keeping it down to varying shades of “black” does tend to keep things simple, does it not?
Thankfully, I have avoided colorblindness, though picking coffins while colorblind can lead to some interesting choices, not that I am speaking from observed experience or anything…
Julie: Thanks. I tried to go with something more blue-ish last night, but then it just got stupid-ugly and I abandoned it. This has been a standby of mine for years now, and it seems to still be working.
Eseell: As am I – probably stems from the dorm days when I did not turn lights on for weeks on end, and hated coming across an all-white webpage.
I preferred the new look with a white background and black lettering as it makes it easier to read, but since it’s your NICKEl; then what you have will suffice.
I tried to keep the contrast for the main parts of the text to be as wide as possible, but looking at it now, I should be able to nudge it a notch wider as well – that should help with the readability.
Otherwise, blame my cave-like existance at Tech
