the internet is forever

Not only is Rob Russell an abusive asshole and a crappy musician, he is also a crappy magician to boot:

Seems Rob Russell has another career he hasn’t told anyone about – Magician.

Yep.. His post thanking the “trolls” who disagreed with his wife — POOF, gone.

Yep, his post explaining how he rolls — POOF, gone.

It seems as though SouthernFemaleLawyer has gone much the same route, and deleted all of her posts (and corresponding comment threads) dealing with firearms and the carrying thereof.
Unfortunately for them, as I have already pointed out many times here, the internet never forgets. Not only does Google have a cache of Rob Russell’s first threat of greivous bodily harm against Bob S. (screencapture preserved), but I retained screencaptures of Rob’s more eggregious comments, for just this reason:

Comment 3:

Note the address bars included with each of those screencaptures – those statements were clearly posted at both Rob Russell’s and SouthernFemaleLawyer’s weblogs, and yet if you were to type in those addresses into your browser, you would be greeted with a 404 error.
And here you see the final phase of “Reasoned Discourse“, otherwise known as the “Memory Hole” – when you are obviously losing the rational argument, and have exposed your own violent temper and psychological shortcomings through your irrational arguments, delete the whole shebang, and pretend like it never happened.
Only it did happen. And we have records to prove it, having dealt with “Reasoned Discourse” and “Memory Holes” in the past, and having learned that backing up comments, from both sides, is sometimes important.
How interesting the difference a day makes… Just this weekend, Rob Russell had a very long-winded post up (almost as verbose as some of mine) explaining, rationalizing, excusing, and defending his threats of greivous bodily harm, and possibly even death, against Bob S. and anyone else who would dare disagree with SFL. Likewise SouthernFemaleLawyer had at least two posts, in addition to her first one, dealing with her opinions and stances concerning the civilian carrying of firearms in public, and how she was adamantly, emotionally, and rudely in opposition to it (with bonus expletives!). Today? *poof* Over five separate posts at two separate weblogs, with a grand total of over 150 comments, are gone. No retraction. No apology. Just straight-up cowardice.
But I thought making “derogatory remarks”, saying “some nasty stuff”, employing “colorful language”, and continuing to “stand by my offer to face them one on one and punch these idiots in their faces” was just how Rob Russell rolled?
It would seem as though those promises, stances, and claims of standing behind his words rolled just about as far as Rob’s political career did. Coincidence? I think not.
1925 Update: Sarah has more and better Google Cache screenshots, documenting the entire sordid tale.
Oh, and hi, Rob and SouthernFemaleLawyer! Saw you stopped by (many times in the past few days), and just wanted to extend a very warm and friendly welcome – after all, your actions have generated over 2000 hits on my webpage in the past four days. Thanks for that!

  • Been an up week as far as hits go for me too. Tho I didn’t take point on either of these stories, and LJ doesn’t do a perfect job with sitemeter.
Honestly what’s the best is the universal appeal of this story. A lot of my friends’ eyes glaze over when I talk politics, but this story has universally interested and amused everybody I’ve told it to.
This new chapter is only going to add!

  • Y’know, you’d really think a lawyer and a politician would have some idea that getting hysterical and/or threatening online is not a real good idea…

  • Looks like someone got caught with their hand in the cookie jar…

  • Weer’d: Eh, you might not have taken point, but you were certainly a significant contributor to the entire shebang, and I certainly appreciate it.
Of course, if you were ever interested in getting off LiveJournal, I am sure we could help you with that…
And, yeah, this is definitely the kind of sad, idiotic story that can echo with a lot of people in a lot of places… politician says something boneheaded, people call him on it, politician tries to make that something disappear, people doubly call him on it all over again. This kind of BS resonates with everyone.
Firehand: You are, of course, assuming the politician and lawyer in question (a) are intelligent, (2) are not one of the “we are superior than ‘average’ citizens” types, and (iii) considered threats like that to be a big deal. Sure is a good thing they have folks like us to point out when they have gone far, far astray.
Dixie: Not only caught, but caught on camera!

  • Firehand – I have the distinct impression that we’re not dealing with folks who have a high level of critical thinking skills or ability for rational thought.
Only idiots would threaten people over the internet in their position, and nothing SFL or Rob wrote on their blogs leads me to believe they’re intelligent.

  • Let’s be fair here folks. I don’t think that SFL thought through her position very well, but it wasn’t a lack of intelligence display – for her.
She is a supporter of the right to own guns, keep them in your house or car — just didn’t want them carried without an unreasonable level of training.
Rob Russell on the other hand didn’t impress me with this issue at all.

  • FYI in the interest and fair play I have continued to read SFL’s web page, and I made a comment of support for her recent post on the California gay marriage case. She has deleted my comment from moderation.
I guess that’s how they roll.

  • rob russell is a coward

On 08JAN10, Rob Russell threatened Bob S. with grievous bodily harm, and possibly even death, simply because Bob disagreed with Rob’s wife, SouthernFemaleLawyer. His exact words were, and I quote: You, however, have demonstrated considerable irresponsi…

  • Bob S.: This is where I am going to have to disagree with you. Yes, SFL’s core message was relatively straightforward, once she got around to it… but on her way there, she did manage to display a marked lack of intelligence. Her arguments were almost entirely emotional with hardly a shred of fact or statistics to support them. Hell, those arguments were occasionally in direct opposition to currently-accepted facts and statistics. She chose an indefensible position, and then clung onto it (bitterly, I might add) to the end, regardless of calm, reasonable arguments destroying hers. And, for a time, rather than expending the effort and trying to defend her position, she simply silenced dissent, despite the fact that we dissenters had outlets of our own, and have publicized this incident even farther than before. Finally, she did not smack her abusive husband upside the head, and tell him to stop threatening people online lest he (and thus their family) be affected by rightful legal action. Or perhaps she did, but it was distinctly too late.
I am certainly not saying she is as bad as her husband, but “intelligent” is not a word I would use to describe SFL.
And as for that core message, now that I think of it, she was, in effect, maliciously attempting to disarm law-abiding citizens in public for no better reason than her own misguided fears. As Heinlein’s Razor goes, never attribute to malice what can adequately be described by stupidity… but do not rule out malice.
Rob Russell is undeniably the Grade A moron in this particular instance, but he definitely found someone at the same end of the spectrum to spend his life with.
Weer’d: Seems sad that SFL would not even allow a comment through when it actually supported her and her position… For a “liberal”, she is amazingly, but predictably, intolerant.

  • piling up the news

I am always intrigued by occasional confluence of news articles, and today’s example just reminds me why I am thankful that I do not use Facebook terribly much. On the one hand, Gizmodo pointed me towards this interesting interview with…

  • I saved everything with formatting in a PDF if you are interested in keeping it.

I’ll keep it up on my site for a few days, so get it while its up there if you want to re-host it.

  • Thanks for doing that, Mike! Unfortunately, that particular cache does not have Rob’s infamous “punch your face in” comment, but it is certainly a good documentation of everything else SFL purged. I have downloaded a copy, and will repost it here in the next day or so (with full credit :) ).
