Please accept my apology. I can’t tell you how sorry I am for making the comments I made and then defending them. I deeply regret this, and I honestly hope that you or family weren’t negatively affected by them. I absolutely never intended to follow through on any element of what I said and was just reacting out of fear. I was upset and worried because my wife was upset, but that is really no excuse. I should never have written those comments, or defended them and I honestly hope that you’ll accept my apology.

The apology was send via email to a group of bloggers.
There was a comment about posting the apology but we were given permission to post it.

Call me cynical, but maybe someone realized that the internet is forever and any future attempt at running for public office would most likely cause this internet incident to have a nice bright light aimed right at it. There is no erasing the entire internet like the comments section of a blog, or a blog itself, so the best option left is to have an apology on record.
SayUncle: Bob beat me to it. His weblog is still down, but this went out by email to a certain group of webloggers. Given that we were given permission to post the apology, I see little reason I cannot forward the email on to you, should you want it, but it is not a whole lot more than just the apology.
Dave: I have little-to-no-doubt that this particular apology is a “sorry I got caught” apology rather than an honest-to-God “I screwed up” apology, but I have a tendency to take things at face value. My posts concerning his threats and behavior afterwards will be remaining online, but, as I said over at Neanderpundit’s, if he had simply apologized to begin with, none of this (at least for me) would have happened.
Now, if he opens his big yap and threatens someone else for something else, all bets are off, but until then, I will take it for what it is: an apology from soneone who got royally slapped down for doing something he never should have done to begin with.
Well whatever the case, it is an amusing variation of reasoned discourse. Post scrubbing is par for the course but when some of the statements are actually a criminal offense under state law, that is a new level. I’ll own up to a chuckle or two at his expense.

So, he’s still lying.
It’s “good” that he apologized, but even with his “apology” he’s blaming other people, not himself.
Basically it’s the “I’m soooo sorry I got caught” apology.
Now he’s on the record as threatening violence, and liking to “hit conservative assholes”. For a man who has aspirations to public office.
This will come up in any later runs he makes, and there’s a not-impossibility that it’ll be coming up for years to come in other situations.
And it should. He’s demonstrated his true face, his ability to make judgments and deal with people who DARE to disagree with him, and what he thinks of his political opponents.

And it took him a week to realize that this wasn’t how a public servant should address others? No, this needs to be remembered. I’m sure Mr. Russell disagrees (finally). But then I’m somebody he wants to be able to hit in the face without retribution.
Dave: And post-scrubbing when you are already aware that everyone and their brother has not only copies of the text in question, but also screenshots of it, is an even higher level. Or lower. Or something. However, if the apology satisfies Bob S., and it appears to, then the incident is probably over… but it certainly will not be forgotten.
Unix-Jedi: As I said, I have every intention of leaving all of my previous posts concerning this incident up, for the whole world to see, and every last one of those posts is all manner of laden with appropriate Google-baiting links and terminology – make no doubt that this will be following him around for the forseeable future. I, too, have some pretty significant doubts concerning the nature and timing of Rob’s apology (the explanation given was that he was advised not to provide it until such time as Bob made his pursuit of charges, or lack thereof, known), but in the interests of fairness, I definitely find myself compelled to post it just as much as I posted my previous castigations of him.
I am told that he is never going to be pursuing political candidacy in the future, and got somehow roped into it two years ago, but even regardless of those details, this was simply no way for an adult male to behave in society. Actions have consequences, and while apologies are great, they certainly do not mitigate those repercussions.
Well he’s certainly qualified himself for an Obama cabinet-level position – right next to that Meehan guy who goes out and actually does knock-down people.
Hell, all he needs to do now is “forget” to pay a few taxes, and they will be beating down his door to hire him!
Unix-Jedi, you’re right about all this coming up in the future. I wouldn’t want to be that guy when he applies for jobs, in or out of the political arena, because so many employers’ Google-fu is rather strong these days.
