cold, hard truth

Anti-rights advocates frequently hold up the National Firearms Act as a model by which we should regulate and control all other firearms, using the argument that firearms controlled by it (including fully-automatic weapons, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns) are rarely used in crimes.
Turns out, not so much:

Police this morning are searching for two men who robbed a North Knoxville convenience store using a sawed-off shotgun.

Knoxville Police Department Lt. Eve Thomas said the men at 1:09 a.m. entered the Pilot Corp. station, 2518 N. Broadway, and demanded cash. One of the suspects was armed with the shotgun, while police did not note if the second man was armed.

Now, I would not trust an average convenience store employee to know whether a shotgun had a sub-18″ barrel or not, and, likewise, I would be very surprised if the supposedly-short-barreled-shotgun was actually registered and tax-stamped in accordance with the NFA.
But that is kind of the point – criminals do not obey the laws. Even being the apartment-dwelling youngster I am, I already have the tools necessary to shorten my shotgun’s barrel to whatever length I so desire… but doing so without the appropriate tax stamp and registration would be illegal. Likewise, robbery is illegal, using a firearm in the commission of a crime is illegal, pointing a firearm at someone outside of a self-defense situation is illegal, and yet these two men went ahead and broke all those laws, and probably more.
So how is it that more laws are going to stop or deter criminals like these? They will not… but current criminals were never the target of such ideas.

  • Well that’s assuming that the anti-freedom bigots give two shits about murder, crime, and violence.
They don’t, and they are all liars, as we have so dutifully proven.
They just want to ban guns, something that the NFA has done very nicely by making such items which should by all means be common-place (A basic suppressor? What $100 or less should be all it takes, they’re just motorcycle mufflers for Christ’s sake! Short-barreled shotgun or rifle, less metal and less barrel *which is the expensive part anyway* unless its a semi-auto that needs to be re-engineered, it should cost LESS, Full-auto? Shouldn’t cost more than the semi-auto variants, and things like Mac-10s and M3s and other such stamped-steel SMGs should be able to be made for entry-level handgun prices) rare playthings of the wealthy or the devoted. And even if you have the cash kicking around to pay the taxes on your SBR, SBS, Suppressor, or Transferable full-auto, the paperwork and long waits is more than enough to wear down all but the most devoted gunnie.
This is what the antis want. Here in Mass its easily a 3 month process and you likely need at LEAST a grand in your pocket for you to simply buy your FIRST entry-level gun, and unless you’re in a gun-friendly town you WILL be abused by police looking down their nose at you, and getting treated the same as a common criminal.
Gun permits in Mass are on the rise, but I’ve seen plenty of people with a passing interest say “Nah, not worth the trouble!” when thinking about picking up a gun for defense or recreation.
And of course as we know from England, and other oppressed places around the world, and domestically, first they sap the numbers, then they pass the laws to wipe out the stragglers.
Thankfully the tide is turning and people are seeing through the lies.

We must ban all hack saws immediately!!

  • Weer’d: There is little I can say except that it is quite obvious that we are in complete agreement. If anti-rights advocates were really as concerned about stopping and preventing criminals as they claim to be, they would be interested in, and supporting, laws that have been proven to actually do just that.
Instead, they are constantly and consistently supporting ideas and concepts that have been disproven time and time again as being fallacious, ineffective, and intentionally controlling over people who never broke any laws, and never had any intention of breaking any laws.
Thankfully, those anti-rights advocates have been using fear and ignorance as about their only bargaining chips throughout history, and thanks to the power of the internet these days, the latter is in very serious danger. Good to see it go.
Joe Mama: Just you wait… regulation of machine shops would not surprise me in once-Great Britain…
