…to not be funny. In the continuing series on “Why Banks Suck,” I present the latest evidence:
We finally closed on Tuesday, a week late, because of screw-ups at our lender. Still not sure why it took so long, but whatever. They overnighted the closing documents to the title company in Atlanta, but due to the late hour that we closed (I was not about to take another day off work on the mere promise that we would close that day) FedEx didn’t pick up the package until Wednesday.
Just got off the phone with my realtor because we were supposed to get keys today, two days after we closed. Basically, the seller (Bank of America) won’t give us keys until the title company releases the 20% down payment we gave them. The title company won’t do that until they get the closing package. Follow? Okay.
FedEx couldnt deliver it today, because they scratched the label Wednesday morning. I’m not kidding. I’m not creative enough to make this crap up. Apparently it takes the FedEx drones in Memphis a full-freaking-day to put a new label on a package. Never mind the fact that I could have driven to the title company and hand-delivered the package in about 6 hours.
So I still don’t have keys to the house I bought. Now I get to start making phone calls to cancel all the installation appointments for tomorrow. Silly me thought 3 days would be enough time to get something overnighted.
Worst. Experience. Ever. I’d rather go back to Basic Training in my current physical condition (abysmal and nearly 30 years old) than ever do this again.
Banks suck. Pay cash.

Would that we could, but we would not live in something we could pay cash for.
Thankfully, USAA has been pretty decent with us in the past, and here is to hoping that the trend continues.
I find it amazing that the seller would not hand over the keys with a signed contract in-hand, though. Then again, BOA has been making a name for themselves by being complete dicks about short-sales/foreclosures.

Maybe the pen really is mightier. In this day and age of terrorists lighting their gonads on fire in order to bring down airliners, self-defense tools that are TSA-ignorable are indeed an burgeoning market, whether they are pens that can…
