beat me to the punch

Speaking of not having enough money…
A little while back, regular readers might remember that I wrote about a very shiny 10-22 barrel design that incorporated a suppressor-length flash suppressor that was wide enough to actually accept a suppressor pinned-and-welded to what would otherwise be an SBR-length barrel (this marvel of engineering and creative thumb-nosing-at-the-law is the SBX barrel produced by Tactical Solutions). At the time, I opined that someone, anyone, should develop an AR-15 compatible arrangement for that kind of barrel, and that whoever did would likely have more business than they could keep up with (people like not having to pay $200 for the ability to have a shorter barrel, idiotic though that fee may be).
Unbeknownst to me, someone did just that, in a variety of flavors, even. Amusingly, as I hypothesized, two of those four variants are already sold out. Oh, and it looks about as shiny and compact as I thought it might.
So, Say Uncle, what would you pay for a slightly-used .22 conversion kit…?

  • For a 10/22, I totally get the point.
For an AR, the $200 SBR tax is a whole lot more versatile though. There doesn’t seem to be much of a premium though.

  • Oh, I would certainly grant that a multi-caliber, registered SBR lower would be far better than a somewhat gimicky barrel, but, as you mentioned, the premium on those lowers, in addition to the tax stamp, just gets annoying after a while.
And I am just fundamentally opposed to having to pay for the ability to have a less-accurate, less-powerful rifle ;) .
