remembering veterans

The day is rapdily drawing to a close, so if you have not already, please thank a veteran for their service. Numerous soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coasties sacrifice so much of their time, energy, and lives to protect us, our country, and our way of life – a simple “Thank you” is the least we can do (even if most of us veterans will be embarrassed at the attention). That said, while a public thanks might be considered to be “too much” by individuals who think they were simply doing their jobs, no military member, past or present, in his or her right mind, would ever turn down free food or drink, and a little company for both – think about it.
That said, you will forgive me a moment of cynical bitching… in my four years in the Navy, I cannot ever recall actually having Veterans’ Day off, and yet the banks are closed today. Must be nice.
