The U.S. Marine Corps has long noted the success of the U.S. Air Force AC-130 aircraft that SOCOM uses. But they couldn’t afford them, as an AC-130 costs more than three times as much an a marine KC-130J aerial refueling aircraft. But the marines developed a solution. This is something the marines often do.

Emphasis added. God Bless the Marines.

  • Wow, this certainly takes the “Modular Weapons system” that is so often talked about in the small arms indistry up to a MUCH larger and more effective scale.
It not only means the Marines can have AC-130 gunships on the cheap, but it also means that C-130 aircraft can be taylored for needed missions without constantly needing to transfer equipment.
