Meleanie Hain, who you might remember as the Pennsylvania woman who had the nerve to exercise her natural, Constitutionally-protected rights by openly carrying to a soccer game, was apparently killed by her husband in what seems to be a murder-suicide. Thankfully, her children were not physically injured in the incident, though I can only imagine the mental scars this will leave… My condolences and sympathies go to her family and friends.
The story that thrust Meleanie into the international limelight was an astonishingly simple one… Concerned for her safety and the safety of her family, Meleanie applied for and received a Pennsylvania License to Carry, and then started training with and carrying her sidearm. One day, she decided to openly carry said sidearm (as she regularly did) to one of her children’s soccer games, where it was noticed by some of the other parents, who reported it to the police, who then decided to revoke her LTC, based on Pennsylvania’s clause concerning only allowing people “of sound mind and judgement” to have LTC permits (and the local Sheriff apparently decided that carrying at a soccer game does not meet that criteria). Meleanie took her local police department to court, got her permit back, and proceeded to school the local sheriff and Bryan Miller to boot.
Since then, Meleanie became a postergirl for individual rights, appeared on Gun Nuts Radio, and generally proved that American citizens who have broken no laws cannot be oppressed by an authoritarian government, no matter how hard that government might try.
Unfortunately, bullshit like this has already started, but any group, individual, or entity who would use this woman’s death as leverage for their particular political cause should be treated as the pile of excrement they are so desperately trying to emulate, and such dancing-in-blood will (as Mike W. found) not be tolerated at this webpage. But here is something for those scumbags to remember – the shooter in this situation was Meleanie’s husband, who was a law-enforcement officer. The laws you so desperately seek to disarm American citizens would have disarmed her, but would not have disarmed him. Let that sink in for a bit.
Meleanie Hain’s life was cut tragically and unncessarily short, but she was able to accomplish a great deal despite it, and she will doubtless be remembered for the good she has done for the pro-rights community as a whole.
Weer’d has an appropriate memorial, Breda has another, Sebastian has more news concerning Meleanie’s death, and Caleb shares his memories.
