Unsurprisingly to anyone who is familiar with him, Bryan Miller said some heinously atrocious things about Meleanie Hain’s death, using the opportunity of an innocent woman’s untimely and violent death to gloat and preen. I will not repost Bryan’s exact words here, but I will use them as a basis for something we have done a few times before – I would like to stress, for the record, that the below blockquote is not a direct quote of Bryan Miller’s words, and it is only put forward as an educational parody:
Ms. Hain’s position was that blacks can be integrated. I thought at the time that she was incorrect. I’m very sad to say events seem to have sadly shown that I was correct.
Again, the above quote is not a direct quote from Bryan Miller, but only four words were removed, and only four words were added in their place – the core message remains the same (and the original quote is available at the first link above).
However, if you believe that the changing of those four words completely changes the thrust of the quote, perhaps you can answer a question of mine that no one has yet been able (or, more likely, willing) to answer: how is discriminating against one right any better or different than discriminating against another right?
It’s simplicity itself! Discriminating against rights I do not believe in limits the wild, impulsive instincts of you “freedom lovers”, thus benefiting society at large. Discriminating against rights I believe in shows your bigotry and intolerance, you insensitive clod!
Sadly, my gut feeling is that many “liberals” intuitively believe something like the above, even if they do not (or cannot) articulate said beliefs.
Unfortunately, you are probably not far off-base, me-who-is-not-me-me. To far too many “liberals” of our time, some rights are more sacrosanct than others, and their definitions and quantifications change from generation to generation – remember, “gun control” was originally devised to disarm the suddenly-freed black slaves.
I would just love it if the occasional “liberals” who visit this weblog would vocalize such a belief… not that I ever believe such a thing would happen, but it surely would be nice.
