Sometimes, you cannot help but to be impressed with the blind, irrational, nonsensical tenacity displayed by some people… especially some of the duly-elected representatives in our government:
A government-sponsored “public option” for health care lives, though it may be more attractive to skeptics if it goes by a different moniker, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday.
In an appearance at a Florida senior center, the Democratic leader referred to the so-called public option as “the consumer option.” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., appeared by Pelosi’s side and used the term “competitive option.”
Unfortunately, this trend of renaming things to make them more palatable has been quite popular with the anti-rights, anti-freedom, and/or anti-liberty crowds over the years… Handgun Control, Incorporated changed its name to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, in order to make their anti-rights advocacy seem more socially-aware (after all, everyone wants to prevent violence, right?). Ex- and current-members of Stop Handgun Violence and Crime Gun Solutions came together to found the false-flag American Hunters and Shooters Association, an organization that has done precisely nothing for either hunters or shooters. Teflon coated bullets are given the branding of “cop-killers”, despite the fact that there is no evidence indicating that teflon allows bullets to go through armor easier.
Even the term “liberal” has mostly been abandoned in favor of “progressive”, though the adherents to both “ideals” share most of their talking points and positions.
I guess modern politicians believe that simply renaming the same bill will cause Americans to entirely forget what is contained within the bill, and accept it just off its name alone. Unfortunately, they may be right.
