The plural of “anecdote” is not “data”, but they do still add a personal aspect to the debates:
If there’s no guns in England, then how come by brothers old girlfriend was robbed – while on vacation in Kent – at gun point last night??

Hope she came through in one piece… But remember, boys and girls – just because an outright ban on almost all firearms in a country that just happens to be an island is not working, there is no reason we should not give it a shot, so to speak, here! Our streets will be crime-free in no time flat… just like England!
