carrying the torch

Mike W. answers a question that had been bouncing around my head for a little while now, but I could find no tactful, polite way to express – Meleanie Hain’s lawsuit against Sheriff Michael DeLeo will go forward, despite her untimely and unfortunate death. This is good news (or at least as good news as you can expect for this kind of situation) for all parties involved, given that the Sheriff grossly overstepped his bounds and unnecessarily trampled on a law-abiding citizen’s rights under the color of law and should be appropriately punished for it, and given that the settlement in this case should make Meleanie’s children’s future relatively secure.
Trampling on a law-abiding citizen’s rights is something that should always be punished swiftly and decisively, especially when the individual doing the trampling is operating as an official governmental representative. Remember – the government, and its employees, work for us, not the other way around.

  • I answered it without bothering to be polite or tactful. Oops.

  • Eh. I just tried to keep from asking the question in the same post wherein I first talked about her murder. Once the news was released about the case continuing, though, it was a fair topic of conversation.
