This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now. This is just a feeling, but I suspect a lot of people with carry permits are friends with other permit holders (I know, it’s a stretch, right?). Do you ever discuss what-ifs with people you regularly hang out with?
For example, my wife’s brother has his permit and is of the “carry everywhere” school of thought. It’s a pretty common occurence for he and I to be out somewhere together with four pistols between the two of us. It’s the same situation with another friend of mine who also happens to be a cop.
But I don’t train with either of them. Sure, we go to the range together, but that’s not really what I’m talking about. Range time in the lane next to your buddy isn’t the same thing as preparing to respond decisively to a couple of thugs out for some quick cash, much less an active shooter or shooters bent on suicide.
So, my question to you guys is this: Do you discuss these things with your legally armed friends? Am I overthinking it, or am I in line with Rule #1 for gunfights?
If you do more than talk and venture into actual training, how do you train for it?
